As in, what are the consequences and advantages ?? I'm thinking about deferring because I'm not able to move right away and would like a year to coordinate. Is it ever a bad idea ??

rejected from Columbia officially even though I definitely knew it was coming !! in actually really relieved cus I think I fell in love with SAIC when I was there and even I think a lot of hardworking artists come out of Columbia, my heart wasn't in it. Also for printmaking at least, Columbia isn't even top 10. I've never cared less about a rejection ha. Still annoying that it was by far the most expensive app tho -____-

I specifically went to a full ride undergrad because I wanted the option of affordable loans for grad school and the freedom to choose whatever program suited me best. I think either decision -- big name school or full ride 'lesser known' have their own risks. With a lesser known school you run the risk of relying exclusively on your work to speak for you. We all know the world isn't that black and white and that its usually a combination of connections and talent that really make the difference. That being said, not every artist that has a successful post grad life really is that talented (imo). And not every talented artist gets the respect they deserve. What I worry about with more affordable programs is the same thing I struggled with in undergrad-- trying to build all those connections on my own. I guess I'm in the camp of biggest/best known program I can reasonably afford and pay off within 10 yrs. I had s friend who went to Columbia, sold a piece from his thesis show and paid of all his loans in one shot. It's not impossible to handle loans reasonably.

I think if you haven't at least been waitlisted by now, then yea. I got waitlisted two weeks ago without an interview.

got my SVA acceptance as well ! a nice little morning surprise. still biting my lip over SAIC tho

found a friend at the SAIC interview who seemingly heard from Columbia printmaking already. kinda bummed me out cus I didnt hear a peep yet. She asked me 'when's your interview ?!" -____-

had mine and felt amazing about it. the faculty is rad, the grads are really thoughtful and supportive. AND (was not expecting this part) I really enjoyed a lot of the other applicants. Talking about our influences and why we're interested-- it was really great all around.

welp got wait listed for RISD printmaking

I got an email weirdly late Saturday night. Their interviews filled up really fast for this week so I got one for next week. I'm going for printmaking tho, which seems like it's running on its own schedule compared to everyone else.

yea Jesus this delay is driving me nuts. especially with all these painting people getting news.

is anyone here applying for printmaking ?? it seems largely divided between painting and sculpture/new genres
