  1. Since I got rejected from HKS, my top two choices are now Michigan and Berkeley. I got an amazing offer from Michigan and the program is great. The aid I got from Berkeley does not compare, but I like the Berkeley program a bit more. I think this is because I also went to Berkeley for undergrad and feel very much at home on campus. I also have some personal matters that are making me lean towards staying in the Bay Area.

I also plan to leverage my aid from Michigan to get something more from Berkeley. I think this might be possible once people begin to reject offers with aid to go to other schools. This will probably happen in April, though, right before the deadline of April 15.

If nothing comes out of that, I will choose Michigan. With that program, I only worry that their network might not be that strong in California (I want to come back to the Bay Area). I may be wrong about that. Academically, both programs are similar and very strong.

We'll see how it goes...tough month ahead!

I got into Berkeley last Friday and called them this Friday to feel out the leveraging other offers thing. I was even told by someone in the their department last fall that it's worth a shot. I was told that they overcommit funding so even if some people who were offered scholarships turn them down, they may not get funding.

I was told that I'd be put on a list and would be contacted if funding becomes available sometime around April 15th. Worth a shot.

  2. Can I ask what you mean when you say "housing and employment"?

I've seen it referenced on these forums that Berkeley awards many (if not all?) of their MPP students with some pretty nice assistantships, but I cant find anything to that effect on their website. Does anyone know if that's true or not?

I've been working for an organization that builds and operates affordable housing. I'm a community organizer with them. Doing that work has gotten me really interested in both how to create housing that's affordable as well as jobs that provide incomes that eliminate the need for affordable housing. I want to study how the two intersect and interact.

In the acceptance e-mail, it said something like over 50% of students get assistantships. This seems to be the best evidence for the rumors about assistanships that I've heard as well.

  3. Was it a MailChimp message or a more personalized e-mail? I had an issue getting their first MailChimp message (back in January), so I am curious. I use MailChimp for work, and it's the worst...

I'm in and got my e-mail at 6:30pm PST tonight. I think when I checked it on my phone it said something about mailchimp but I can't find it now. I'm also surprised they didn't send it all out at once.

I also didn't get funding but I'm still really excited. This is definitely #1 choice for me. Good luck to everyone else!

Applied: Price MPP, Luskin MPP, Goldman MPP

    Accepted: Price ($$$$), Luskin, Goldman

  4. I have a letter supposed to be delivered to me that requires sig - did anyone have to sign for their acceptance letter?

The site still says no decision. I applied to SC (MPL) and UCLA (MURP).

I didn't have to sign for anything. I was notified by e-mail about acceptance and then the next day a large envelope came in the mail with scholarship information. The mail carrier just left it in my box though.

  5. Yeah, this wait is killing me.

I got into USC and UCLA but Goldman is my #1. They're a great fit (housing and employment), I'd like to move to the Bay area so the network would help, I like how small and focused it is, and it's affordable. Hard to beat.

I got my USC notification at 2am (I'm assuming auto-send) so I'm thinking of setting my alarm for the middle of the night, haha.

Just checked the thread from last year and it looks like people found out in the evening? Maybe I'll just sleep in tomorrow...

  7. Congratulations! If my experience is universal, any funding offers will come in the mail. Mine arrived around two days after admission, and it seems like most people's have been in a similar time frame.

Just got the email to check my status about half an hour ago.

I'm accepted with no mention of funding. Excited and worried all at the same time, though according to some in this thread I should expect a letter in the mail soon.

That was my experience too. I got my e-mail this past Thursday and then a funding letter in the mail on Friday. Hope you get good news!
