I am an advance standing student. I have been able to enroll in every other class but research. I was trying to enroll in the research class with a COPD focus but I kept getting the same message. I already reached out to Ms. Sadaka so I guess I will try an advisor. Thanks guys!

I say go to Hunter.... great clinical program for a fraction of the price. Besides, I never understood when people say money is not an issue. Your going to be a Social Worker, money IS an issue. Also, in my not so humble opinion, I have worked alongside Hunter and Columbia alum (which should also indicate that the school name does not determine the job) and Hunter graduates are superb. Not only are they excellent clinicians but they are willing to think outside of the box and challenge systems. I don't mean in a cliché, disingenuous way either AKA acknowledgement is NOT enough. I mean really considering all aspects of a issue, advocating for client rights, and challenging agency policies that are fundamentally oppressive and 100000000000000 years old. Guess it all depends on your own perspective, interest, and goals. Also, I fully acknowledge that this may have nothing or everything to do with Hunter itself, could just be the fabulous people I have come across. Best of luck!

Are any advance students planning on starting classes this summer? @mildmannered, I know you were advance standing. Did you take classes in the summer? What are your thoughts?

Ahhh good to know I am not alone, @ mswgal. Your post made me feel a little less anxious. I hope we both hear good news soon!

Has anyone who interviewed a week or two ago heard anything back yet? Or have seen a change in their application status? Just curious and also freaking out. I interviewed on 4/3, didn't see any changes in a week and then my app changed from "being reviewed" to "pending dean decision" in 2 days... idk what to think at this point. It seems like everyone has a different experience though.

Did anyone send a thank you letter after your group interview? Had my interview on Friday and I am not feeling too confident about it. I'm wondering if I should send a follow-up email.

My invite said that it was specifically for COPD. Has anyone else been interviewed for that track? I'm wondering if the questions are different than clinical.

Finally got an invite to interview!!! My status changed earlier today and then the email came in!!! Whew! Any interview tips??

Mine still says "Submitted" too...totally stressed over this. Guess I will be one of those who will be waiting til May to find out.

First off, congrats on Columbia!!!!! I think a 4 week notice is best. I know most jobs require 2 weeks but this is social services! They are probably going to need time to transition your caseload. I'm in a similar situation and I'm already trying to keep my paperwork in order. I actually like my supervisors lol so I don't want to leave them with a mess. Good luck!

Hey Psycholicious_2015 I was accepted to Pitt on 12/17 and didn't receive my merit scholarship award until 2/15...it takes a while. Also I applied for advance standing, but was told that this was not guaranteed until registration time (whatever that means). I'm not sure if it makes a difference that your an international student, but then again I don't know much about that....sorry! hope this helps!

Hi Everyone! I also was accepted to Pitt (advance standing-COSA) and received a generous amount of funding. Still not sure if I want to attend. I only applied here and one other school, because I do want to spend big $$$ on my MSW. I did visit the school about 2 weeks ago. I think the staff and students were very friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate (very important to me). They were also very personable. In fact, everyone in the area was very friendly and inviting (as a NYer, this was so different for me, but I liked it lol). What I like about Pitt: Low cost of living Friendly atmosphere Public transportation is FREE for students Cathedral of Learning is absolutely beautiful!.... where I think most or all of our classes will be Career Center specifically for SW program Program seems flexible enough that you can 1. customize it to meet your specific interest/ needs 2. work part-time (super important!) Center for Race and Social Problems....this is my ultimate interest. I personally would not want to go to any MSW program that wasn't focused on tackling core issues and working "with" our clients versus working "for" our clients....you figure out the difference. If I have to be super honest and a little shallow (we all are). I just don't know enough about Pitt. I know it ranks fairly well (#11) but that's it. I'm not sure about its reputation and if I will be able to be taken seriously once I leave Pitt and travel to other states. Anyone else have the same issue or other concerns? What do you guys know about the Pitt?
