Thanks for the info - I am not from the U.S. so have no idea myself. Looking at http://money.cnn.com/calculator/pf/cost-of-living/, which I'm not sure is accurate, the differences in living costs are big but not, I think, enough to make the UW funding offer comparable to most schools'. (15K in Madison corresponds to ~19K in Boston). But of course people have different consumption patterns.

On Wisconsin-Madison: Is it just me or is the funding package not very good? I mean, $14,786 in total a year?

Same here - waitlisted for UW Madison. Not sure if I'll stay on the list, depends on my other options which haven't all come in yet.

I'm in the same position regarding UW Madison. I wouldn't be surprised if they resume sending out rejections after the weekend, though.
