Canadian Universities MSW. The waiting game 2015 admissions
MostlyM replied to smpalesh's topic in Social Workers Forum
I was waitlisted and it was my first time applying. I am finishing my undergrad right now. Do you live far from the school? I wouldn't assume it's rejection just yet, there seems to be quite a few waitlist spots. -

AH! That kind of bums me out to think that. But it does seem a bit ridiculous to wait list hundreds of people. It makes much more sense from almost every perspective, especially ease in narrowing down who you give offers to. Also, there has been a couple rejections on this forum. But maybe only 2? I was much happier with the idea of 75 people being on the list. A friend of mine who is currently in the 2 yr program at U of T got in off the waitlist and she said that it seems like everyone she speaks to in the program was accepted off the wait list. That is why I am curious about anyone who may be turning down their offer or asking to be taken off the list. -

Someone said earlier they thought roughly 75 people, which is not bad chances. However, it seems lie pretty much everyone on this forum who didn't get an offer is on the wait list, so it could be higher (or all the keeners live here?) Again, I am reeeaaallllly curious about ANYONE who is either taking them self off the waitlist, OR who was accepted at U of T and is taking another offer?? -

Is anyone who has been accepted to U of T turning the offer down? Secondly, is anyone who was wait-listed at u of T not remaining on the wait-list because they are accepting other offers? Thanks everyone! -

Waitlisted. First time applicant, still completing my undergrad. Better than a rejection. Let's hope the list MOVES! -

I REALLY appreciate your help. I will likely be up there in doing 9 or so. Although, I think I have what will count as a stats and a social research. I hope! Had you taken any stats/ research methods courses? I am hoping mine will count as equivalent. How did you find doing them online? Was it easy to reach the 75% avg to be accepted into the program? Also, do they make you do a placement in waterloo, I am wondering if it may be possible to just drive up the two days for class (they say only in class on Thur and Friday) and potentially do a placement in Niagara where I am from. I really appreciate you answering my questions. If you aren't comfy answering my question regarding maintaining the avg, feel free to PM me! -

I am considering this as a back up plan. I would take one year off as I only applied to U of T and it looks like I will not be getting in. I have a four year degree from Brock in child and Youth studies. I am wondering about the prerequisites that they list online. SDS 250R (formerly ISS 250R) Social Statistics SDS 251R (formerly ISS 251R) Social Research SOC 224R Poverty in Canada and its Social Consequences OR SDS 312R (formerly ISS 312R) Homelessness & Public Policy SOCWK 120R Introduction to Social Work SOCWK 220R Social Work with Individuals - Theory and Practice 1 SOCWK 221R Social Group Work SOCWK 222R Community Organization 1 SOCWK 300R Canadian Social Welfare Policy SOCWK 301R Understanding Diversity in Canada OR PSYCH 349R (formerly PSYCH 222R) Cross-Cultural Psychology OR SDS 311R (formerly ISS 311R) Public Policy and Native Peoples in Canada SOCWK 321R Social Work with Families I have stats and research methods, but I don't have much in terms of specific social work courses (which is why i want to take the post grad BSW) How will they consider this? Did you have to take a bunch of classes that fill these prereqs or what? I am a bit confused. My degree is very social sciences but I have like zero socwk classes, where does this leave me in terms of my chance of getting in? Thank you so much! -

I got this EXACT email when I inquired 6 weeks ago. I wouldn't read into this email too much. At this point I am onto my plan b, and just waiting for what I know is coming in the mail from U of T. It's pretty difficult to be optimistic at this point. I wish they would just send everything out already. Who knows though? -

I wouldn't worry too much quite yet. It isn't a very competitive school to get into. Best of luck to you! -

I applied to Brock for my masters in child and youth studies ( I did my undergrad there) I got my acceptance weeks ago and have since declined. I know that is early compared to other Brock MA programs. Do they give a date for the MADS for when you should hear back? -

I sent in an updated resume but only because I had been accepted to the APA convention to present my research, not because of extra work. I feel the same as everybody on this one- I think they pretty much assume that you are collecting more hours. Also, I got a generic response that it was added to my file. Not to be pessimistic but I have a feeling she would give that response no matter what. I doubt she would send back saying "no point, you didn't make the cut". That's just my take though, sorry if that is blunt. Best of luck to everyone again. I think this week is the week. -

I scrolled back to last years forum and and saw that people commented saying that April 6 or 7 was the date that all answers would be mailed out. Assuming that they are doing the same thing this year (LETS HOPE) that is in one week. At this point, I am finding it so hard to remain optimistic and I just want an answer so I can move on. I am literally sick about this, I have no motivation at all. Need. Answers. Now.
