  1. I do see your point here, but I have to say that I had good relations with the department during the process. The Grad Advisor provided info when I asked. The process played out as I was led to expect. I feel respected as an applicant and don't feel as though I wasted my money. One must enter the process with open eyes and mind. In applying to Berkeley you should expect a certain level of impersonal treatment. Its a huge place. I was told there were nearly 400 applicants. There is one person processing all of that in the department, with minimal assistance, along with a bunch of other stuff. This is at a state institution in a state that can't remember if its coming or going financially. I contrast this with experiences on the job market where applications of mine have just disappeared into the void, never to be heard from again. That's the norm out there. Getting responses to grad school applications feels pretty good compared with that, even when it's a just a line from a central Grad office.
  2. I have to ask, given the odds on being accepted anywhere, and the expense of applying which must be considered, why would anyone say they wasted $90.00? What's that supposed to get? Is it supposed to guarantee something beyond the consideration and processing of an application, and notification of the results in time to accept other offers? I was told by Ned that I'd hear by the end of February, and I did. I didn't get in. I assume the profs read my app. I'd think the fee was wasted money if I knew they didn't, but I have no indication of that. "Love is a gamble, like the wise man said...." By they way, I had a smoke with Kroeber recently. He said it isn't his fault. He tried to break through to this dimension to give feedback, but it didn't work.
  3. Me too! Well, I am lucky enough to have other options. I didn't apply to too many places, and I don't hold out much hope. Maybe I'm just preparing for the bad news. Someone went off on Berkeley the results search, and I have to wonder #1 if it's worth all that ire, #2 what sort of entitled world does that person come from. It's a long shot for everyone. Does Berkeley owe them admission because they paid a lot of money to apply, or some kind of pat on the head and a raft of soothing words just because they didn't get in? It sucks to be rejected, and it sucks to get a form letter, but when you deal with a place that big that's the way it you often find out. Party on.
  4. He just said they were hammering out the final details. I didn't feel like I should press for more. I could hear voices in the background so I just said thanks and that was it.
  5. By the way, I haven't heard yet either.
  6. I checked with the guy at Berkeley, and he actually thinks this site is great, just that info posted here in the past has sometimes been wildly inaccurate. "No harm done" he said, but check it with the source before worrying about it.
