I was admitted to these 3 schools upon application. Delaware is highly recognized in field of chemical engineering, but otherwise it is pretty average or below. Gatech has high reputation, top ten engineering program, as well as very kind professors. However, I found their research more towards industry (which is not really my favorite) UCLA research fits my research interest the most, with professors highly recognized in the field. However, the problem is the money.. Obviously they are having trouble to provide funding for first year student, and from their email I was told to self-support for first year.. which really is a LOT in LA. Among the 3, I do really want to go to UCLA the most. However funding is the biggest obstacle here.. Any thoughts? Any suggestions?

Hi Laoliu102, I am also admitted to MSE PhD at UCLA, and have to self-support for first year as well (which is so weird...) I am wondering when and which professor did you talk to who would like to provide you with first year support? It's definitely a big concern wrt to the cost of living in LA..
