  1. I think it varies. I was wait-listed at four programs. One of them offered admission last week; another told me today that they are not accepting anyone else; and regarding the last two, I haven't heard anything so far.

Btw, today I declined one of my acceptances, so maybe someone is accepted from the waiting list in the next few days.

The way they accept people in linguistics PhD programs is frankly incomprehensibly different from how they accept people in other fields like economics, physics, math, etc. In other fields, the factors they consider are whether:

I totally agree with that. I had very good results on my application process (wait listed at MIT, accepted at Chicago...) and I lack all the "credentials" that most of the applicants here have.

  3. Maybe the funding has to do with the actual possibilities of studying without funding. I mean, I couldn't study without funding because as an Argentine I can't work in the US, and of course I don't have the money to support myself for 5 years. And the two universities that accepted me offered me funding.

I checked the website to see my rejection from UMass and my status was wait listed! I wonder why I didn't recieve any emai about it! but I am really happy!

waitlisted by my dream schools MIT and UMass! I really hope I can get in this year.

It happened the same to me... wait-listed without receiving an email.

Btw, thanks @historicallinguist for your help.

Looks like I am out of luck. I saw a result showing UMASS sent out unofficial acceptance two days ago.

There is only one acceptance and one wait listed on the results page... do you think we should assume rejection?

Sadly, it is not possible for me to assist to those things, since I live in south america.

Hi! Well, interesting things are happening in Buenos Aires. For instance, the First Buenos Aires Summer School in Linguistics (ELBA) starts today (we have courses on Syntax, Sign Languages, Semantics and Psycholinguistics). Last year, we organized an important conference on Generative Syntax, and we had some interesting courses on psycholinguistics, syntax, pragmatics, among others. Most of the times these things are for free, and we are always willing to host students from Latin America in our homes, so if you want to contact our group, you can send me a pm.

I just saw another Rutgers on the result page. Anyone wants to claim this? I heard nothing from Rutgers. It does not look like a good sign.

Hi! That was me. I received an email from Viviane Deprez with the offer and an invitation to visit the University yesterday. I didn't expect an acceptance since the last acceptance post on the results page was more than a week ago... but I got it! So maybe they do not send their acceptances all together.

So are we now assuming that if you haven't been interviewed by NYU you'll likely be rejected?

Have any syntax/semantics-type people been interviewed? 3 weeks ago I seem to remember it was the phonology people and then they said other specialisations might interview later, but I'm starting to feel like all interviews must have taken place.

I'm in the syntax-semantics group. I asked the same thing some pages ago, and someone told me that NYU doesn't send official rejections right away... so I assumed the worst.

I'm also flying from overseas and I have a long and expensive journey from Argentina to the US (up to now, I'm traveling to visit only UChicago), so I'm waiting for some schools (UMass Amherst, UCSC, MIT, UPenn (they interviewed me)) because I want to visit as many schools as I can.

Does anybody know if UChicago has sent out all the admission offers already? I only see two UChicago posts so far, so I'm still holding on to this little bit of hope...

Hi, I was one of the two UChicago posts. They have sent all the official admission offers and all the invitations to the visit in march/april as well. They have also sent us a list of all the people who were accepted (10).

  10. I haven't heard from NYU neither, but I saw some people posted a rejection... was that a rejection email? or was it just an assumtion?  I don't know what to think.

I had an interview with Penn, and still waiting for some news from the majority of the universities I've applied.
