[Are unfunded bioengineering MS programs a good choice?]

I should be able to get into a MS program at a top 10 school in Biomedical engineering... but it looks like it likely would be unfunded.

 

Or I could apply to a funded Ph.d program at a 15-50 school, complete the MS and bail on the Ph.d after two years, but be funded because it would appear I was going for my Ph.d

 

 

Anyone have advice on this?

I have not yet taken a practice test, but I almost always get a better relative score if people think the test is more difficult.

 

When I look at the conversion charts, a 330 GRE equals about a 700 GMAT.  A 330 GRE comes out to about 99th percentile on charts I have found, while a 710 GMAT comes out to about 90th percentile... so, as far as I can tell, you probably should take the GMAT also if you are applying to a top business school?

I have already taken the GRE and got a reasonably good score: 330

 

I am wondering if it would benefit my application to take both even if it is not necessarily required that I have scores for both.  I also feel I would get a better score on the GMAT if I take it.

I studied 2hrs/day 3-4 days/week 3 months.  My practice test scores never went up.  They were always about 159V and 156Q on both Manhattan and ETS powerprep.

 

Actual score:  168V/162Q

I had the opposite experience even though I missed at least 4-5 questions due to nerves/fatigue of the test situation.  I was averaging around 158V and 156Q, but got near perfect V and 85%Q on the actual thing.  Retake it.  You will be more comfortable the second time.

I am also interested in figuring out options for MS in related fields like bioengineering.  Is there a comprehensive list of funding options somewhere?  I hear that the top schools will often provide grants and stipends, but it is difficult and time consuming to figure out exactly what is offered where.
