It was billed that this would be a local placement full-time and paid so I registered for a summer online course instead of on campus to accomodate for the possibility. We were supposed to know of placement by May 18, but didn't get word until June 5 rejection. Then June 11 I get a surprise offer out-of-state, but unable to take it per logistics and short notice. Gov't agency did not handle this professionally or timely at all. Overall a 3 week delay seemed significant to me and indicative of wider and well-publicized problems there.

I am entering my second year of grad school. This spring I applied for a fellowship with a government agency. They were two weeks late (beyond the absolute latest we'd know by) in sending out placement notifications. I was rejected for a local in Texas fellowship. 6 days later, on a Thursday, I was offered a fellowship and they wanted my decision the day of. It was in D.C. area starting the next Monday for 10 weeks. Citing a number of concerns on how this handled and the lack of notice on the positive offer, I declined. Am I out of line for noting on my Vita that I was offered a fellowship with an award package valued $XXXX.XX but that I declined it?
