  1. I interviewed at 3 schools for school psych, state and private, all accredited and full NASP approved. They all said and some showed me info, that their grads were working either in May or by August of the year they graduated. I admit I didn't press one school (Univ of Hartford) if they were all working as School Psychologists, full time or part time, etc. but most had good stats for jobs.

That is very encouraging! The schools I looked at said the same thing. Hopefully it will be the case in 3 years, after my schooling and internship ;) I have a feeling it will be. What an exciting field!

  2. hey guys, I was wondering how important school rank is in the school psych field? The only school that Ive gotten into as of yet isnt very well ranked, but then again does it matter? We just get certified and start working right?

    Hi LTee,

Where did you find school psychology rankings? I can only find clinical, etc. rankings. Would you mind posting a link? I am curious as well :)

  3. Hi,

I'm considering the Applied Sociology program at UMass Boston and am looking at moving to Boston from the Twin Cities in MN. Any input on U Mass's reputation in terms of their graduate programs?

    Hi Karma,

I don't know anything about the reputation of that program at all, unfortunately :( I know it is totally different, but the School Psych program is very well respected within the school systems around here. I would hope that carries over to the quality of the other graduate programs at UMass Boston. What I really mean to say is, it is not somewhere that is not well respected.

  4. OMG!!! Congrats, that's great! I got accepted as well!!! YAY for us, lol. It ended up being the only school I applied to as well because it was truly the only school I would actually go to.

How funny! Well, we're really lucky (and awesome, obviously) to have gotten in after only applying to only one school hahaha. I can say that now because I was kicking myself for it prior to hearing anything ;)

Congratulations again! I am so excited...I can't wait to get started!!

  5. Who has heard from what school psychology programs? Could be either PhD or Masters... I am just curious :)

I only applied to UMass Boston for reasons similar to those stated above. I was accepted into their M.Ed./Ed.S program!

  6. I'm not sure about the weekend, but sometimes decisions are sent after-hours on business days. I received an acceptance e-mail that was sent at 7:15pm from one of my schools. Before I had assumed that if I didn't hear anything by 5 I'd have to wait until the next day.

Same for me. I have received emails from my school including letting me know my file was complete and passed to the department, opportunity to interview, and finally an acceptance email all between 9-10 pm on weeknights, one on a Friday.

  7. I guess I'm paranoid the offer will be pulled. This would never happen, right?

After reading some of the stories on this site, I am so paranoid about this happening to me! Well, not necessarily it being pulled but it being a mistake... like they sent out acceptances to the wrong list of people or it was sent too early by accident and I'm not really in. I know it is somewhat ridiculous to be worried about it as it must be a very small percentage of people that this happens to, but the school hasn't updated their website saying that I have been accepted yet, I just got an email from the director of the department telling me I was accepted and asking me to email back to let them know if I am going to attend. Also- said that I will be getting the official letter in the next week or two and will get all the information about financial aid, orientation, registration, etc. eeeeek. I hope I'm not getting too ahead of myself!!

  8. Hey!

I'm going for the Fall semester i Historical Archaeology. Anyone else going there too?

    Hi Meg!

I'm also going to UMass Boston this upcoming fall. I just found out last night! I am still coming down from the high haha. I am going for a M.Ed./Ed.S. in School Psychology. It is the only school I applied so and I can't believe it worked out! Are you familiar with the area at all?

  9. Hey! Have you heard back from your schools yet?

Hello to you! It's really funny... last night, right before I got this message from you I got an email from the Department Director and was accepted!!!!!! I am jumping up and down!!! I was starting to believe that there was no way I was going to get in and that I was really dumb for only applying to one school. I hope all is well with you! :)

  10. Jennifer- yes! One of my worst was imaginary scenarios. I am convinced that if I get ahead of myself it will not happen. Like, if I imagine how it would feel to tell my Mom the good news, that good news will never come. Unfortunately because I think about not imagining such scenarios, I dreamed about all of them in my sleep. And here I am.

This is me too! I keep going back and forth between "I need to be realistic and know I probably won't get in so I don't get over excited and jinx myself" but..... "I need to think positively because what if all that negative energy is making it somehow not come true! Wish for what you want to happen not what you don't want to happen!!!"

In the end I'm just going crazy trying to latch on to anything I can :)

  11. Thank you so much!

I will probably try again next year. But then again ... I'm starting to get excited about what this year may bring.

I hope I am as positive as you are if I get rejected from my one and only school I applied to. I wish you all the best!

  12. Actually, job applications are much better. If they aren't interested in you, you never hear from them again. They are only interested if they contact you. And if a batch of job applications don't pan out one week, you send out more next week. You don't pay employers to apply for a job, and you are not stuck in limbo for a year if there are a flood of applicants and you get rejected. And if you don't like your job, you only keep it until you find another. There's a lot less at stake with a job application.

Job applications are a lot less nerve wracking than PhD applications.

I agree with you, Hermes. I think the thing that freaks me out the most about this whole process is having to wait a WHOLE YEAR before being able to apply again. That is a long time (when you consider how long the next month feels right now). I don't know if my brain/body can take all the anticipation/stress! Whenever I have applied for jobs it is much less stressful for me.

  13. Who has heard from where? It seems to be pretty quiet on the school psyc front, and the other topic was predominantly PhD programs. I'm just curious as to what these darn masters programs are up to.

I only applied to one school and my interview is March 10th. Needless to say I haven't heard anything else yet :) But I was happy to see a MA School Psych post on here!!
