  1. Good luck again to everyone! I am assuming that UPenn will reject me because I didn't receive an interview, and it is extremely competitive. Fortunately, I have two acceptances, but I am still waiting to hear about funding from them. UPenn and Cambridge were my two Comp. Lit. options.
  2. Congratulations! I know two people who were in that program, and they loved it.
  3. So I was having nightmares that I would get rejected from Yale, looks like my subconscious was right because I found out yesterday. It wasn't the best fit, so I am not really upset. Still waiting on Columbia which is my other top pick. Either way, I am incredibly grateful that I have two acceptances, and UCLA is likely to give me some sort of financial package. The best part is that the historical dates for Slavic on the results page are so off that you can get a better idea of when you'll hear back by consulting tarot cards and fortune telling.
  4. I'm curious about Columbia since they haven't given any signs of life since I turned in my application. Considering the historical dates are completely off for Slavic, I really have no clue when I'll hear back from the rest.
  5. For me UPenn, UCLA, Columbia, and Cambridge are the best fits while Oxford, Toronto, Harvard, and Yale are good fits. I was on the fence about applying to Harvard and Yale in the first place, and I can assume rejections from UPenn and Harvard because I didn't receive interviews.
  6. I just heard back from Yale. I was not accepted, but I am totally at peace because it wasn't the best fit. I am still eager to hear from Columbia, which is my other top pick.
  7. Here's to another week of admissions results. If you end up emailing Yale or Columbia, please let me know what they tell you.
  8. It is a good thing you didn't respond. If I had another bottle last night, this morning would feel significantly different.
  9. OMG, PFB you get to choose what wine I open up. Pinot Noir or a French red blend?
  10. I'll crack open another bottle of wine if anyone else is still awake.
  11. Mmmmmm, this Bordeaux definitely helped me forget my admissions anxiety. While the Slavic departments have incurable indecision, I've been treating my impatience with red wine.
  12. There is an epidemic of Oblomovism among admissions committees this year. My colleague drivetime died, and now I suffer alone. Maybe if I had scythed the fields a few hundred times I would have had an epiphany. Alas, I went to the local biology department, cut myself while working with cadavers, and died this morning because I chose not to disinfect the wound.
  13. Same here, we still have another hour before admin offices typically close, but this is ridiculous how long both places have been taking.
  14. Welp, I didn't hear anything today...
  15. Definitely, the historical dates skewed when I thought I would hear back. I'm not a fan of cliches, but I sincerely hope that "no news is good news" applies to both of us given the wait.
  16. I am with you. It has gotten to the point where I have given up caring so much, I just want Yale and Columbia to say something.
  17. I am seriously dying over here. Maybe they will tell us tomorrow.
  18. Thank you for the update! I found some statistics on a website, but they seem old. Well, we should hear back from Yale this week. I am bracing myself. Hopefully, they don't keep us waiting until Friday or Saturday. If you don't mind me asking, how many places did you apply?
  19. If someone included their GRE scores and/or GPA with their result, you can see it by hovering over the little red diamond next to the Decision and Date section. To be perfectly honest, the GRE was the weakest aspect of my application.
  20. I wonder how many Slavicists we have that are lurking. Clearly we have at least one New Soviet Man within the ranks, check out Berkeley. Someone was accepted with a GRE of 170 V, 170 Q, and 5.0 A.
  21. It is such a killer! Supposedly, Yale will be notifying everyone this week and next week, so I am dying to hear back from them. Fortunately, I know I have at least one program with some funding under my belt, but Columbia and Yale are my top choices. I'm expecting to get rejected from UPenn, and if I don't get an interview next week then Harvard is out. UCLA isn't shabby, I just am impatient to hear from the others.
  22. I was wondering, does anyone have statistics on how many people apply and percentage admitted to Slavic programs? Other than Oxford and Harvard, I haven't been able to find ball park estimates. For Oxford the MSt and MPhil Slavonic Studies programs on average have 2 to 4 applicants per year, and their are normally two seats available. Slavonic applicants must compete with Yiddish and Celtic Studies for those seats so it is about 2/8 on average. Harvard, I heard they have 30 to 40 applicants on average, but I wasn't able to find how many are admitted. Other than that brief inquiry, has anyone heard back?
  23. Thank you! My professors said similar things before I applied in the fall, since you never know whether the ad comms will think you are a good fit. I should hear back in a few weeks from UCLA about funding, and I am pretty hopeful about it. I have already braced myself for a rejection from UPenn. Yup, the only issue is that most Slavic departments don't release how many people they admit or apply on average. Now that the weekend is ending, I should be able to think about other things. Just spent the past few hours with a few friends playing board games to pass the time, so I'll have plenty of reading to do on Sunday. Thank you so much emiliajulia! Two of my professors went to Columbia so they were definitely pushing me to apply. When I first started applying I thought it was the best fit for me, but even if it isn't I am happy to already have two acceptances. Hahahaha, I remember waking up this morning thinking, 'seriously, just why.........'
  24. I will hear back from Yale this upcoming week or the week after. Since Columbia and Yale are my two top choices, the wait is incredibly nerve wracking. I even had a slight feeling of nausea for a little bit, and it can be hard to occupy my time on the weekends with things besides homework and movies. The worst was I had a nightmare last night. In the nightmare I was rejected from Yale, and the comments mentioned that my writing ability in Russian was nonexistent, my reading comprehension was lacking, and my speaking was incomprehensible. The pathetic part is I have already been accepted to two programs, and I am just waiting to hear about funding. Yet, the doubt and uncertainty never seems to leave.
  25. I was accepted to Cambridge's MPhil in Comparative Literature a couple days ago, and I will find out about funding in late February or March.
