Yeah I applied to Univ of Oregon too,  The person that got one I think was international, so maybe they do that first?  My last name is a Z too, i dunno if that is also a factor as to why I havent recieved anything yet.

I don't know if the fact that I'm an international means that I'd be interviewed any earlier. However, Ron Jude interviewed me so I assume it could be that Photography people interview first, he did mention that they're interviewing the shortlisted applicants right now though.

  2. Hi,

Another photo applicant in here. My schools are in my signature. So far I got one interview with UOregon last week, and what seems to be a rejection from Michigan :(.

Good luck everyone, I'm really restless about this.

Finalizing interviewees on Friday, contacting people next week. Interviews will be *long sigh* February 26th and 27th. -__________-

    WHY!?!?!??!?!?!

Welp, I'm ready to have a heartattack :-)))

Well, no one has heard from Northwestern yet--so there's still hope for your other top choice!

And good luck with your UO interview!

Thank you for saying that, I'm slightly discouraged so I'm not gonna count on it. The interview was ok, I definitely did come off quite nervous though.

    good luck to you :)

U of Michigan was one of my favorite too. Sad it didn't work out... but oh well, I can only hope for other schools.

I knew I wouldn't get invites from every school I apply to, but reality stings a lot more than I thought. I wish it was April so it'd be all over and I can go back to regular life...

I know! The reality indeed stings, I'm still hoping we end up hearing something good.

I can't wait for April too, at least then I can plan what to do with my life.

Same here. This is my first year applying to MFA programs so I do not know what to expect. I can only guess how my work stacks up, and part of me doubts I will make it. I come from such a small unknown liberal arts college, have done no residencies, and my gallery representation is very modest. I'm happy with my work, but I wonder how relevant it is in the grand scheme of things.

I hope I can take disappointment if it does happen. I hope I can keep my head up, and realize that if I don't get in, my applications can only improve because this is still a valuable learning experience in itself. I just have this horrible tendency to get my hopes up, I don't want to get crushed under any feelings that may crop up.

I completely relate to how you're feeling. What I understood is that above all the program's choice is based on fit, few current students, previous applicants and a program director described it to me as a "matchmaking" process. What worries me is that even if I was confident in what I have to offer, these programs might not be interested in work like mine.

Anyway, good luck to you and to everyone on this forum! I'm sure we'll be able to handle the decisions whatever they might be!

Finishing up all my applications today and I just realized I had one single, small typo in three of my letters...I somehow wrote "identity" instead of "identify." I have NO idea when that happened...I had two people review my statements and they didn't notice and I proofed it so many times. So, maybe it won't be such a big deal? I'm inclined to think it won't since I feel the rest of my application is solid.

What's everyone's backup plan if you don't get in this year? Reapply next year? Are any of you applying for residencies? I'm doing VSC for two weeks in February (I know it's a weird time to do it with all the grad school stuff happening---I completely blanked on the fact that I might be asked to interview during that time or soon after--skype all the way!!). I also applied to Skowhegan, Art Omi, Millay, some local project grants. Will apply to a few others soon since deadlines are fast approaching. Trying to keep busy just in case for some unfortunate reason I don't get in anywhere, I've got other things in the pipeline.

My plan is if it doesn't work out this year then I'm going to try again next year.

  7. I wonder when we'll start hearing back.. I ended up applying to only four schools which is making me really anxious. I'm confident in my work but I'm very unsure about whether there's space for work like mine in the west or not. I try to tell myself that having had my work chosen to be exhibited in one of the British Museum's galleries and the Venice Biennial are good indicators that my photographs can cross over, still I'm anxious I guess.
