@ Robo_Lizard: Congrats on your Oregon admit. Has anyone heard back from UW ? It seems they will declare their decisions in the next couple of weeks. Any chances that some of these can be admits ? -

Anyone heard from UWashington, Seattle?

I applied for Ph.D in EE (mid-December), still waiting for a decision. -
I also got a PhD admit without funding. When I contacted the department, this is what they replied: "Unfortunately we do not offer any financial aid or scholarships automatically. Students can apply for research and teaching assistantships only by signing up on the physical sheets posted in our department building at the beginning of each semester. We must inform all students that it is extremely rare for a first-time student to receive a research or teaching assistantship, and students should plan to support themselves completely for the first year. The more semester hours completed at ABC Univ. and the higher your ABC Univ. GPA is, the better chance you have of receiving a TA position. Faculty members choose RAs based on individual interaction with the students and similar research interests. After the first year of classes, your chances for financial assistance are greatly improved." I found it very weird that they dont seem to offer TA/RA positions for the 1st year.

University of Washington CS PhD Applications

I applied for PhD in EE Dept. Haven't heard back anything. -
I do agree with most of you Ph.D applicants here that the wait is definitely nerve-wrecking . I sent emails to almost all my POIs in the universities I applied . One of them replied back saying that he asked the admissions to send me an acceptance. He also added that he will need a brief call regarding the funding scenario. I replied him back expressing my excitement to hear the news and sharing my contact details. This was on this Monday (2nd Feb). However, since then, I haven't heard back from either the Prof. or the Grad. Admissions. I called up their dept. to mention what the Prof. said (yeah, I was pretty anxious at this point). They said that the Prof. can only make a recommendation regarding which student he wants. After that, also the application goes to some Chairman, who makes the final call. She finally said that I can expect to hear back in 2 weeks time. So, let me know your thoughts guys regarding my situation with this university.

Hi Guys, I have applied for Ph.D in ECE for Fall 2015. I sent an email to my POI in one of the universities, and this was his reply: "I asked our admissions to send you an acceptance, if I am not too late. However, we should have a brief call on the funding situation." I was wondering how I should respond. From what I understand, I can expect to receive an admit soon, but the funding will be decided later. Please correct me if I am wrong. I will appreciate any inputs from your side. Thanks.

Hi friends, I took my GRE yesterday and got these scores: V - 150 Q - 162 I am applying for Ph.D in RF/Analog Design (EE) in the US universities mentioned in my signature. Would you suggest retaking GRE for me ? From what I read on university websites regarding 'competitive GRE scores', they should be (V >= 155, Q >= 165) Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

Any news from Columbia Electrical Engineering
rooney_rocks replied to HAPLESS BOY's topic in Engineering
Me too waiting for Columbia EE Ph.D. I had also called up grad. co-ordinator and she (Else Sanchez) told me that most of their Ph.D decisions have already been given. She was also surprised to know that I haven't got a reject yet (by March last week) even though I had applied for a direct Ph.D .
