  1. Hello from a current SLP grad student,

I’ve been right where you are now (3 times actually). And there’s no pretty way to say it……it sucks. Waiting sucks so much. But what sucks even more than waiting is the feeling you get when you get on this page and compare yourself to strangers. Strangers! You are 100% comparing yourself to someone you don’t know. And this comparison is supposed to “help you feel better.” Yeah right. If anything, you check this page to see that acceptances have been sent out to a school you applied to and now that pit in your stomach has arrived. Or maybe you see someone applied to the same school as you and you want to know their stats. Knowing their stats will not give you that sense of satisfaction. Your applications are in. It is now out of your hands.

My advice? Get off this website. It’s so hard to do. But honestly what’s the point of stressing yourself out more when the situation is out of your hands? And as for comparisons go, the person with the higher gpa could have horrible recommendations but you don’t know that. And the person that has a low gpa and gre could have the best personal statement known to man, but you don’t know that. So stop comparing. This process is about you. And if you really want to get in and it doesn’t happen, try again. I did and now I’m living the dream.

Now please don't come back here.

  2. I would go with the employer. Both professors you already have lined up can speak about you in the classroom and as a student. It would be more well rounded to have someone else speak about how great you are with other people and responsible you can be with real world tasks. That's just my opinion though.

I had a professor, SLP I volunteer with and the private clinic owner where I did th majority of my shadowing write my lors.

I got no acceptances. As my sig says, I got 5 rejections, 1 waitlist, and was denied off the waitlist due to lack of space. I'm on their "summer waitlist", which is basically "if someone drops out we take people from this list" so I'm not expecting to get in off it at all.

My new plan is: move in with my boyfriend, try to find a full-time job (as opposed to my part-time job right now), and apply to a LOT more schools next year.

Don't let it get you down! I applied 4 times before being accepted. If this is your dream chase after it with all your might! You'll get there!

Do the schools usually send out an email letting us know if the waitlist closes? Like a definitely rejection email? Haha

It varies. I applied to uconn and got waitlisted one year and then recieved a rejection. I also applied to Bloomsburg one year and was waitlisted and never heard from them again.

Omg!  Are you my twin?  Seriously, we have the same story.  It's my GRE score that's keeping me out of graduate school too.  So far I've been rejected from 3 of the 5 schools I applied to this year.  4/5 schools I applied to for the first time, one school this is my third time applying there.  I've taken the GRE so many times and keep getting a 292 and my cumulative gpa is 3.3  The school I keep getting rejected from suggested to me today to retake some courses and try my best to get the GRE score up.  I know this is what I want to do.  I'm 27 years old, so I'm getting frustrated because I'm getting "old" and want to be settled into my career, but life has a funny way of working out sometimes.  I also have worked under the supervision of SLPs and I currently do ABA therapy with kids with autism, and I also volunteer at a therapeutic riding farm.  Everyone keeps telling me not to get discouraged, so you don't get discouraged either!  I'm going to contact all the schools I got rejected from and ask them what I should work on.  Good luck!

Hello twins! Just wanted you guys to know that I'm in the same boat! It's exhausting but I know this is what I'm supposed to do! Good luck!

I called yesterday, If you haven't heard....you are on the waitlist. Waitlist runs 75 people deep. They couldn't tell me my number, but the person told me I'm in the middle.

You should hear after the 15th. Best of Luck!

I emailed the head today and he responded quickly. I'm also on the waitlist and "in the middle"

I've seen jobs at a local hospital for a rehab assistant, which is basically assisting PT's, OT's, and SLP's in the inpatient rehab facility. Check out your local hospital job postings and I'm sure you'll find something!

Thanks so much! I was just overwhelmed with what to do. You've really helped me focus and calm down.
