Yeah, I applied for grad housing too but apparently it's super duper competitive and thus not guaranteed :/ Either way I will have to sign the lease without having seen the place!

I hope you're stocking up on winter clothes for those fun Canadian winters :P

Well that's true. and I didn't realize that there're still so many grad students applying for on-campus housing (or it's just too few spots). Hope you can enjoy the new home anyway!

I'll keep my finger crossed about the winter! Don't wanna die in coldness lol. But I saw pictures in spring and summer, amazingly beautiful!

Congrats @lovemc!! McGill is awesome, I visited there a couple years ago on a trip and the campus is beautiful.

How are y'all finding housing? I'm realizing I am going to have to sign a lease without actually having seen the apartment. Slightly nerve-wracking.

@GvhYeah quite some people told me so, I can't wait to see the campus! I will probably apply for on-campus housing for the first year and look for places when I'm already there. Maybe you could set up a Skype with your potential landlord and let him show you the house to get some idea!

I am also curious to see what awesome schools everyone ended up at! Great idea @Gvh :)

I'm sure you are really excited about UChicago! My SO just got the the list of all of the people who will be in his cohort (8 total) and who they will be working with...it's all happening so fast!:o

8 people! They recruited so few people each year... I'm still disappointed a little about not making it to NYU! @FeelTheBern lol

@Gvh Great idea! I'm going to McGill at the end! Besides thrilled, I start to realize tons of annoying visa issues I'm facing now.

That's seriously so exciting that you're heading to Canada though. I feel like people always say winters are rough in Montreal, but who cares? It's Montreal...totally worth it. I have several friends that have visited and they came back to the states raving about it! But yes, come to NYC, apply to PhD programs in the city after McGill...plus it's a 1.5 hour plane ride which is super close! Seriously so great to hear this, YOU GO @lovemc! :)

Thank you for so many positive and energetic inputs @FeelTheBern, really made me feel better about this decision and the life in Montreal! I'm a little scary but more excited about this new life. btw I have no chance to apply for PhD again, as I'm heading to McGill for PhD :P! But I'll keep my dream for NYC as always!! Anyway, you could always visit Montreal for a weekend or a couple of days as well!

  5. Seems the faculty supervision is very limited, I'm trying to ask about the possibility of getting involved in a certain lab before I make a decision. But I really get frustrated to get in touch with the faculty at NYU. Any tips about how to reach the PIs for international student, except emails?

  6. Anyone heard of this Institute, affiliated with McGill University? What's its relationship with Montreal Neurological Institute and what are their strengths/disadvantages? I once heard from my friend saying that one institute in McGill is fantastic and with high reputation in cognitive neuroscience. But I just found out there're actually these two institutes and I'm confused. Would anyone give some introductions about them? Thanks a lot!

I got the rejection from BC with the offer for the MA too - don't do it. Most PhD programs will have you earn a Master's while you're in it, and having a Master's going in will not cut down on the time it takes to get the PhD. Don't go into debt for a non-terminal degree. You're better off taking the year to get a research job in the field that your ideal mentor(s) are in.

I got one more question about this research job issue. Is it very rare and difficult for an international student to find this kind of research assistant job in the USA?

  8. Congrats to @Gvh and @St0chastic! You nailed this application season!

Random question but do you guys feel like the process has been a little slower for cog psych compared to other programs? I'm trying not to get discouraged by all the admissions decisions and the flood of interviews on the results pages for other programs!!! I've only heard back from 2 schools so far out of 10 (and they were both rejections MERP!)

I feel exactly the same as I heard from only one program up till now. I'm thinking of backup plans like applying to stay at my home lab for one year RA already...

P.S. Have anyone applying for Tufts heard anything yet?
