Oh, i totally understand your frustration, hopefully it will be positive. I really dunno what to make of it, but it seems like good news, maybe they are considering you for funding B)! You never can tell till you hear from them. If I may suggest, have you tried calling them to confirm, since they are not responding to your email. Maybe the admissions team or your program director or supervisor since you applied to a phd program.

Hehe... I like the idea of "maybe they are considering me for funding" :) You are right, I will try to call them in a while. I hope it works for both of us. All the luck for you :)

Its just so unfair that we have to wait this long and considering the fact that if we get in, we need time to apply for visa. I applied since october last year, i'm just tired of waiting. I just need to know what their decision is, so i can move on already. Their response to my email is contradictory, one person says they'll get to us next month, the other says early april....gosh!!!!. While in the case of utoronto, im not even sure if offers have been made to international applicants like they claim on their website. I wish someone can just confirm, all i have seen are offers to domestic applicants. Anyways, goodluck while we keep waiting:)

I totally understand your situation... and I am thinking about the visa process because it takes time for sure. What makes me more anxious is that I was able to stay in touch with the department until the admission committee took their decision! It feels so bad that the decision is out and they mysteriously keep it a secret!!! I do not know if I should think positively about this waiting. Sometimes I say to myself: if it was a rejection, they would have informed me right away... so it must be something positive... Or maybe totally the opposite! What do you think?

    Hi,

Just wondering if any international applicant to uoft's MPP or carleton uni's MPPA has received an offer from them. The wait is nerve-racking, i wonder why its taking them this long to make a decision. I'm aware offers have been made to domestic students about a month ago and that uoft noted that offers will be made to international applicants the week of march 28, however no updates since then as to whether the offers were made or not, their response to my email enquiry was just generic. If you have any info, kindly share. Thanks

I did not apply to your program, but I am facing the same waiting issue with Carleton. Last time I heard from my department was on March 23rd. The administrator told me that the admission committee just had the meeting this morning. All my emails after that date were not answered and I have no clue in what state or stage is my application!!! Not sure if I was accepted or rejected :(

Hey. I applied for the MPPA program, on the weekend my application status was "Recommended for assessment", but this morning it changed to being "Review in progress by Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs", then I didn't look at it again and I just received an email offering admission. So I don't know if mine changed to recommended for admission or not, but I do know that I heard pretty soon after it changed to being reviewed

Thanks a lot... sorry it was a typing mistake... mine is "Recommended for assessment" not admission... I guess the hallucination of "admission" is taking over all my attention. Congratulations!!! I hope you are happy with the offer :)

  5. Hello guys,

Does anyone know if "recommended for assessment" status is a good sign at Carleton?

My application status has been changing from:
    1- Preliminary review required
2- Review in progress by department
3- Recommended for assessment (this is my current status)

I highly appreciate if the ones who got admitted could explain to me their process. Just for the record, I am applying for a PhD program in English, but still the process is the same for the entire university, right?

    Please please please enlighten me...

    Many thanks in advance,

That's good! Yeah I think i'm the anxious one ha. And nope, no changes in my diet! My boyfriend is the cook so he makes me awesome food ha. I'm not much of a sweets person, my vice is bread and seafood.

How nice :). Thanks for the advice... hehe. I just dropped the chocolate bar out of my hand... I have chicken in the fridge... I will aim for that. I really hope we hear soon from schools (preferably next week, I do not wanna think of March... it is too far :P)

Yeah my boyfriend went through this process as well so he understands the timeline. Sorry it feels heavy! It felt better after he told me where he prefers to live so we will see! Does your bf have any preference? I know mine wants to end up at the lower cost of living schools. I like all of them so his opinion is the 2nd most important thing.

I am actually thankful that he does not :). He told me he would be happy anywhere we go as long as I am happy with my choice. But I know he is feeling anxious with hands tight because he wants to apply for a job ahead of time, but we sill have no clue where exactly. The more I see people posting their schools' decisions, the more I feel the waiting is unbearable. By the way... I am eating sweets right now that I have never considered eating in my life.. are you craving for this too?! I think I need my results and a dietitian soon :P

I'm still checking my email even though its the weekend. It's harder since this will affect my boyfriend because he has no idea where to apply for jobs.

I totally understand your situation... Not only my boyfriend is asking if I heard back from any school, but also his parents are inquiring now! to see where we're gonna end up! It feels so heavy :(

  9. Sorry Pink, I should have also mentioned that... during my application process, after the school had received all my documents, they sent me an email saying: You should hear back from the Graduate Committee within 3 to 4 weeks and that was on January 1st (from one school) and on January 7th (from another).

  10. Congratulations to whoever got acceptance. Guys, please I need your advice... the waiting is killing me too for applications which had deadlines late December and early January. Do you recommend that I contact the institutions or wait for another week or so? The schools that I applied to had no specific dates for decisions, but as  of previous years some of them were sending out their decisions early February... Some friends are asking me to wait since my email may affect my funding! Is this true?!!!

  11. Reading about your struggle and the responses confirming that we all will struggle in the PhD program makes me feel so anxious about what is waiting me. Danielyamahoto, you are the third person in the past three months that I know of considering either the drop out or a short break. Two of my friends are now pursuing their PhD(s), this is their second year, one in the States and the other in Canada. Their enthusiasm and passion were behind their success and determination to achieve what they want, they are also my ideal students and source of inspiration. It happens that each one of them is now facing your difficulty and they are both having these thoughts of dropping out or having a short break! I am extremely surprise about that because I know how dedicated and persistent they are. I may not be able to judge their or your decision because I am still not in your shoes, but I definitely know how intelligent, capable, and talented they are. And I am pretty sure you share the same characteristics, otherwise you would not be in your program right now. When you say I can write a shitty prospectus only to be accepted, but not fully convinced of because you always think others may write a better one, then why should we strive for a better work/writing/project if we are pretty sure we are the best? I believe your concern is very common in brilliant people because they care much about their success. Perhaps my comment comes a little bit late, and maybe you are already done with your prospectus (I hope so), but please never let a deadline or a responsibility hinder or prevent your success, or even let you doubt your abilities.

    Good Luck!

  12. Thanks AkashSky for your opinion,

I think you have a point in that since the extension took place only two days before the original deadline. I thought of this possibility too, but deep inside of me I only wanted to believe that there were fewer applicants :)

  13. When you get to know that the application deadline has been extended from January 15th to January 25th, do you consider the university does not have enough applied students, and thus, it extends the deadline or is it most probably for another reason?

    Please share your thoughts here,

    Many thanks in advance,

  14. Hi,

I am not sure if the ranking actually matters in your case because first, University of Ottawa is among the top universities in Canada. So if you are going to stay in Canada, the Immigration office will consider you graduating from their top universities. Second, the main fact that you need to take into consideration is the country need for immigrants; Canada welcomes more immigrants than UK, therefore, you have more chances to stay in Canada after graduation. But it also depends on finding a suitable job right after.
