I work at Columbia and I talked in person to the graduate program coordinator today. She said that if it's C2B2 (systems biology) or any of the other disciplines within the Integrated program, the first round of invites for them have already been sent out. However, since Columbia has rolling admissions, more offers MAY be sent out in March based up on the number of people who accept/reject from the initial batch.

Offers for Pathobiology and Molecular Medicine will be sent out tomorrow or Wednesday.

Also the Dean was out for Thursday and Friday of last week, and the first round of Integrated program offers were all sent out on Wednesday.

Was it Diana who said this?  When I emailed asking for an update on my application (~10 days ago), she mentioned that the faculty voted to accept me and that the decision was being forwarded to the dean/graduate school for formal processing etc. Maybe I misunderstood?  Thanks for the update!

    Integrated Program in CMBS.

I applied to systems biology (also under the integrated program) at Columbia and haven't received an official acceptance letter, so I called the graduate school of biomedical sciences.  Apparently the dean was out of office till today, which might explain the delay.

  3. Hi All,

I interviewed at Columbia university last weekend for the Systems Biology PhD under the integrated program- has anyone heard anything from the graduate coordinators, or from the faculty regarding systems biology or the integrated program in general?  They said decisions will be made within two weeks, but a few of the current grad students said that some of them had heard sooner in previous years.  Thanks and good luck to all!

Hi guys, I just received an interview invitation for one of the programs I applied to, but they asked if we could have a video interview on Monday morning. I have a test and a paper due on Monday. And this would be my first interview since the other ones are later in February, and since it's my top choice I would really like a tiny bit more time to prepare. So I was wondering if it would be detrimental to my chances if I asked if there another time that I could interview? I was just not expecting such short notice for the interview.

Call me a pessimist, but I think it would be detrimental to your chances unless you can come up with a really great reason as to why you can't do Monday morning- unfortunately, I don't think telling the committee that you have a test and a paper counts as one.  It's likely that you're not the only one who was asked for a Monday interview, which means that you'd be asking them to make an exception for you.  Sounds like a tough situation, but I think you should try your best to be ready for Monday.  Good luck!

  6. Hi all- I'm interviewing at Columbia Systems Biology (C2B2) this week, and this is the first of two interview weekends.  Does anyone know if programs like these

wait till after the second weekend to extend offers of admission?  Or is it a rolling process? Waiting is hard...

As a general plea, if anyone knows somebody who's interviewed at Columbia for this program and could connect me to him/her, I would really appreciate it :).

Good luck to everyone interviewing this week!

  7. Hi all- did anyone here apply to Systems Biology at Columbia?  I received emails from three of the professors I selected to interview with-

essentially, they each said that they were looking forward to meeting me and offered to answer any questions.  All of my prior email communication

with Columbia has been through the graduate coordinator, so I was wondering if anyone else had received similar emails.  Thanks!

Hey we have similar applications, I also got interviews at Columbia Systems Biology and Weil Cornell Tri-Institutional program (Computational biology program I assume? ) and am also waiting for UCSD Bioinformatics :/ .
When's your Columbia interview? I got Feb 11-12 :( and the Cornell Recruitment thing is insane, 3 full days of doing stuff is bonkers.

Hi Political,  I agree- Cornell looks intense; it's a long survey plus 3 days of events!  For Columbia, I got Jan 29-30.  Did they give you two options as well?  They gave me the Feb 11-12 option as well but I opted for the first one.

  9. Hi All,

Long time lurker here- wondering if anyone's heard from any of these programs?

    -Stanford Biomedical Informatics

    -UCSD Bioinformatics

    -UCSF Bioinformatics

    -UC Berkeley Comp Bio

    -Pittsburgh Comp Bio

So far I have interviews at Columbia Systems Biology, Michigan Bioinformatics, UW Seattle Biochemistry, and Cornell/Weill Cornell/MSKCC.  Thanks! :)
