  1. Hi Altruists, I am a prospective student looking for admission in the Fall quarter of 2016. I have graduated this September from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, which is considered as the best engineering school in the country. My primary research interest is in Human Computer Interaction, ICT4D, and Social Informatics. I have applied to the following four programs - 1. University of Maryland, College Park, Information Studies Ph.D. program 2. University of Maryland, College Park, Computer Science Ph.D. program 3. University of California, Irvine, Informatics Ph.D. program 4. Cornell University, Information Science, Ph.D. program My overall profile is like this - CGPA: 3.85/4.00 (Class rank 7th out of 134 students) GRE: 317 (Q 163 V 154 AWA 3.5) , TOEFL: 109 (R 30 L 27 S 23 W 29) Publication: One poster and two full papers in a ACM affiliated international conference (ACM DEV). Our latest paper was one of the best three papers. Research Experience: I worked in a research group associated with my alma mater from my sophomore year. I had a chance to collaborate with a research group at Cornell remotely and consequently two Cornell professors were co-authors in one of my papers. I conducted several ethnographic field studies, software development, user-study and a lot literature review. Besides I also worked in Wireless Network Lab of our department for the purpose of my undergraduate thesis. Teaching Experience: Working as a junior lecturer in a local private university from September 2015. I have taken 4 LORs - one from my research mentor, one from my thesis supervisor, and rest from two course instructors. As I am done with the stressful application process, only thing left for me is to bite my fingernails for the notification. I am well aware of the fact that chancing to grad schools is a murky process. However, I still appreciate your feedbacks on my chances for these schools based on your previous experiences. Particularly, for UCI and UMD (I know Cornell is way too out of my league).
