How do we get the 2000 scholarship? I saw hardly nothing in the list I was qualified to apply for. I wanted to apply for a research assistant position but Fooks told me because of internship that is not an option.

Same for me. That was depressing . $43K in tuition and living expenses. We offer you.......$43K in loans. Looks like Public Service Student Loan Forgiveness plan is in my 10 year future

Congrats!!!

I feel like the admissions letter I got was saying if I had received a fellowship or scholarship I would already know by now. kala94 posted the wording above and I had the same wording in mine. I feel like there was only 1 or 2 fellowships. I know one of the members of this board got the diversity fellowship and, if I remember correctly, there was only one of this type and maybe one other one?? I was secretly hoping the department would be picking some top students to help out...but it sounds like not.

I think they might be referring to the DCFS CalSWEC And UCCF stipends if you are willing to intern for 2 years and commit 2 years after you graduate. I believe they are around $18,500 per year, maybe more as these are undergrad numbers I know of. All the other internship stipends (Department on Mental Health & Gerontology) are only for year 2 I checked out the scholarship database for a while today, I couldn't find anything that I qualified for at all. It sure is looking like loans, loans, loans!!!

I got that email finally today. average award 2000. Ugh! I am sure we can do better in second year once we are in the system.
-
Oops. I found it. Thank you.

Hi. I see a UCLA MSW 2016 group with 191 members but I don't see a Fall one.
-
I got the letter in the mail finally. I have until April 15.
-
Congratulations!!!!
-
Awesome. Congratulations! I also don't know the deadline. Same as you, I never got the email...just found it on the portal. Last Friday. Keep me in the loop if you hear anything about the deadline. I'll do the same.
-
I never got anything by email...still. What was the date of your letter linked from the application status portal? Mine was March 4th, but I still haven't gotten that email....and of course the letter in the mail either . I wonder how long we have to accept or decline? I sent them an email last Friday but haven't gotten a response.....I will call just as soon as I can find some free time during business hours.

My reply got posted on our FAFSA thread above. Oops. This doesn't work so well on my iPhone. No word yet.

Hi. No. I keep checking the mail every day. I could just accept from the link on the application status portal, but I am still weighing options and not ready. I wrote them Friday with questions but no response yet. I wish I knew how long I had to decide. Acceptance letter from the school was dated March 4- it talked about a department letter forthcoming. I am going to call the department if I don't hear back by Friday.

Me too, the online letter is there but I haven't received anything from the department yet.

I think you are making the right choice. I agree about having a smaller cohort! I didin't apply to USC - the cost was just to much to think about given what kind of money we will be making and my age. I'm psyched for you- what concentration are you going in to or do you know? I want to get the PPSC certificate and work in School Mental Health for a few years, then hopefully move into designing interventions.
-
Thank you. I hope so too. I'll be in touch!

I am so scared of taking out that much in loans as I already have undergrad loans and am over 40. I want to save the county's money for the child in an education fund for them, if at all possible. How long did they give you to accept? Thank you for answering all my questions!
-
Good idea. I sent the school some questions just now about possible other scholarships or research work. I am going to call the Financial Aid office Monday. I want to find a way for it to work!
-
I think so but I was hoping to find out more about scholarship opportunities to help me in making the decision. We are working with the county to foster to adopt so even though I don't qualify for financial aid, our ability to contribute is pretty weak, and I need to put the future child first financially. Just trying to figure out what it all means for us. I could go to CSULB for 1 year program but ......it's not as good. Thanks for listening!

Hi lizlizliz, thank you. I only found my news by incessantly checking the grad status link. I still don't have a letter from the department but the grad status link has a link to a letter dated today (so hopefully the department letter is on the way). Background as follows: -flunked out of college at age 18 with a 1.6 GPA -worked in corporate America gradually climbing way up from bottom for 15 years. Last few years spent researching large Fortune 500 companies and regulations in banking and healthcare industries (finding ways to help corporations work around legislation that protected the lower and middle classes)..couldn't sit with it and decided to make a change to the other side. -Went to Santa Monica College to do prereqs while working -Undergrad currently finishing at CSULB in Social Work, 4.0 GPA on all Jr/Sr work. 3.3 overall GPA -Semester internship in LAUSD School Mental Health -2 Semester internship at an affordable housing provider in Santa Monica(more macro community work) -1 year paid work on 2 research studies related to developmental disabilities and autism and Latino families -9 months to current paid work on medical research study related to heart attack patients at Cedar Sinai -1 year volunteer work on human rights documentary All in total, I'm pretty new to this field. Hope that is encouraging to all. Hope all our letters of acceptance come today!!!!!
-
Did you get something from the department? The app status link for me contains a link to a letter from the Dean of Graduate studies and that letter states the department should be sending me something that details the timeline I have to accept. How long did they give you to accept? If you got a letter from the school- did it say anything at all about financial aid or other potential scholarship opps beyond the fellowships? (I know you said you later got the diversity fellowship- congrats!!!!!!)
-
Hey you guys, go check the grad status link. I didn't receive an email but have been excessively checking it anyway....my 15th try today it says I was accepted with a link to the acceptance letter. Yay!!! Now to make the choice between doing the Advanced Standing in 1 year at CSULB and doing the UCLA 2 year. I really want to do UCLA but there are big costs to that extra year, especially as an older student. Does anyone know if there will be more scholarship opportunities? I think I will call the school....
-
Hi everyone, just to put your mind at ease, they received a large number of applications in January so it is going to take a while to sort through those and send out to confirmations of receipt. I also have heard that there have been some staffing changes so that may potentially impact timelines. I submitted 12/15, received a notice of application received later that afternoon and received the acceptance email on 12/22. Advanced Standing, which I know they review first since they have to set up for the summer bridge session. Good luck everyone!

MSW Fall 2016 CSULB, CSULA, CSUDH, CSUF, USC

Hi everyone, anyone applying to UCLA? Have any idea where we might hear back? I submitted Dec. 15 but unfortunately missed the scholarship deadline diversity statement, hoping there are other funding opportunities. I heard back from CSULB Advanced Standing, accepted. That brings great comfort. Good luck everyone!
