I called Brown and BU. Brown is sending out notifications this week. They call those who are accepted into the program and send an email to those who are rejected. BU told me notifications will go out sometime in mid-March. I'm losing my mind! Hang in there, my peeps!!

Thanks for responding to my question. I called Brown & BU on Wednesday and was told by both departments that no decisions have been made either way; still going through applications. When I asked for a timeframe each said a few weeks still. Harvard is still going through applications as well. I'm hoping we hear soon AND I'm hoping we are in orientation together in March...or April...or May!! This is soooo nerve wracking!! And I'm in the middle writing my masters thesis! Luckily my hair fell out years ago or I'd be in trouble!!! Keeping my fingers crossed for the both of us...and everybody else viewing this thread!

Dumb question: have you heard anything from Harvard, Brown or BU?

Thank you for the kind words. Best of luck to you as well. Advice to older applicants? Use your experiences, either life, personal, professional, to find an interesting research topic. I had no intention at all to open up that pandora's box of prison experience. Too nightmarish! But as I progressed through my Masters program I discovered that academics like older folks with unique life experience. I'm now very much looking forward to the opportunity to dive back in! So, bottom line, life experience matters.

Hello All! I'm applying to AMST PhD. programs at Harvard, BU and Brown. Also the History PhD. program at UConn. I'm a 52-year-old retired prison guard hoping to examine the rise of mass incarceration in the US. I'm currently finishing my ALM in History at Harvard EXT with a GPA of 3.85 and my verbal GRE was 162 (I'd rather not post my math score as it is QUITE embarrassing!). I have three very strong recommendations from three influential Harvard profs and interest in my research topic from two or three AMST faculty members at Harvard. I've even spoken to an undergrad class there about my experiences in the prison system. I hoping to stay at where I am, but acceptance to either of the other schools would make me equally as elated. Are there any posters here that have applied to any of the programs I have that may be able to ease my decision waiting game angst? Thanks!!
