  1. Although I pretty much have my mind set...I am still waiting on Fordham to reach a decision. I don't know why but Fordham seems to be the most cumbersome for me. I also submitted all my documents on the deadline date and they sent me the "application complete" email 2-3 weeks later. I remembered sending an email in early February to confirm that they had received the documents and they emailed me back about 6 days after my email.

@BrendonSW The visit was good but I didn't get the 100% this is where I want to go feeling. The staff I met weren't the nicest especially the financial aid person. He was pretty rude and unfriendly. I then met with an admissions counselor who was very nice but not really a part of the social work program. The best part was sitting with a field placement staff who was very friendly and helpful. She made me confident that NYU offers great clinical internship placements, many of which that offer financial stipends. I am hoping to sit in on a class soon to get a better feel for the actual SW faculty. The area around NYU is beautiful and very vibrant but the actual social work building does not compare to Columbia. I really thought I'd be able to make a decision after today but I think I need to visit both a little more.

@AMcCoy Thanks for your take! I think most Financial Aid offices are very comparable. Perhaps they don't like the thought of giving money out. I bet the bursar departments are all joyful to collect :)  I think part of learning experience in Social Work is that we all come across people that may not be friendly, easy going, or they may be overly joyous. So perhaps the first lesson is dealing with the variable faculty and staff. Another point to make is that the Financial Aid office is not a place students always have to visit. Usually once you accept/appeal a package you rarely have to deal with them. Only to confirm the loans get processed which is probably tracked online via Albert.

Just got my decision letter (at 7.48pm) and I am in!!! For those who are still waiting, do not loose hope. Your letters are coming.

CONGRATS OPT! I am so happy that your day finally arrived! That countdown clock of ours was quite the adventure. You must let us know the scholarship offer tomorrow.

Thank you FT-Grad2016. You're so kind. I will remain positive. However, to be honest, at this point I only want to hear the decisions so that I can move on and only focus on the school where I have been admitted.

I completely understand the feeling. I already accepted the NYU offer as it was my first choice. I practically gave up on waiting for Fordham. The horrendous part is my application should have been completed the first week of February. However, they didn't upload my final document until 2 weeks after, and I only got the "your application is complete" email last week. So by the time Fordham renders any decision it will probably be the middle of March or early April!

Since I already accepted NYU it would be very hard for me to change my mind (and lose the deposit!) to switch to Fordham. I like both programs... but unless Fordham offered me 20K+ a year scholarship (renewable) and a GA position it would not be worth it to me.

I managed to talk myself out of the Fordham's conditional offer today. When visiting the School, I found out that the reason why I was offered a part time 3 year study plan last Thirsday was that I have a low CUM GPA from my undergrad (in 2009). I met with Stephen 11:20am, an admissions associate who was very helpful and trying to build a case for me to remove my conditional offer. It was like an interview asking questions back and forth giving me a chance to explain why my GPA is low. After spending half an hour with Stephen and giving him good reasons and assuring him of the benefits of having me as a full time student, he told me he would approach the Interim Director to appeal the decision at noon. I then said thank and left his office. While I was walking to the subway, I received an email from Fordham with a new acceptance letter and this time they offered me a Full Time 3 Year Study Plan without any conditions. It was literally 12:05pm. I checked my application status and the new decision was updated accordingly as well. I don't know how to explain how much happy I am. I'm so pleased with the admissions team at Fordham. They listened to my problems and I believe they treat each student's case individually with care. Thus, I would suggest whoever have any problems or any doubts, please reach out to the admissions, especially Stephen. I would also recommend to visit the School and sit down and talk with the admissions team and you will be so surprised how helpful they are.

@Opt4theBest Congratulations! I was rooting for you.

When I first read that you talked your way out of the conditional offer on my iPhone ...I thought they rescinded the offer. Fortunately, I read the full post ?

Thanks so much! I emailed the admissions. However, they asked me to wait for the interim director's response next week. It's a weird feeling as I am not sure if I should be happy or sad. I can't do part time and 3 years are too long and too expensive for me. Sigh!

    Congrats Opt!

Although it is not the most convenient news... at least you heard back from them with an acceptance. Hopefully you get some better news next week from the interim director. At the very least we know the clock is working!

hello. i've been lurking around this forum for the past few weeks because i've been super anxious about my application...

congrats! to those who heard back this morning! now where is mine.....  TT

    Welcome to the forums!

  8. I got my NYU acceptance letter today! I was getting ready to leave for the day and turn off my monitors. Luckily I looked at them and I had an email with the subject "Your decision letter." I guess I was right about getting it when we least expect it. What a long long journey...even though it was only a couple of weeks. Now to await the funding email!

I think I might've given some incorrect information earlier in this thread. Whenever you receive the Welcome from the Dean email, you should get an acceptance/rejection letter around a week after that. My letter from the dean came on the 28th, I was accepted the 4th. The introduction to the admissions office email came on the 18th. Good luck!!

@BrendonSW Thanks for the additional information. I think NYU has thrown their system out the window at this point. I received the "Welcome from the Dean at NYU" email on the last day of January and still nothing. I am expecting some news by the end of this week. I'm curious about something. Do they send out rejection letters via email as well? I remembered reading some schools send out acceptances via email and rejections via snail mail.

  10. Another day passed with little news. I think the NYU office has taken an impromptu vacation or they really want to make those of us on this board squirm. On the other hand...Fordham has also been slow to turn out decisions for some of us.

Nooooo don't say that! Stay positive. We will get in NYU.

    I will stay positive!

I actually feel like removing email notifications from my phone. I get frustrated seeing a bunch of email alerts only to find out that none of the emails are from the schools I applied to. The sad part is when we least expect the email to come...it will probably come.

I checked on Albert one day after i.e. Jan 29th and saw that no required materials were missing and see all items checked off (on 28th when I checked saw that one of my recommendation letter was missing) so I assum that that is how NYU tells us that our application was completed. Also, on Feb 4, I received an email from NYU with this language:

"On behalf of our faculty, we look forward to having your completed application evaluated and rendering you a decision soon. Good luck.

    Respectfully,

    Robert Sommo

    Assistant Dean of Enrollment Services"

Have you received this letter yet? I remember Brandon said if we receive this letter, it means that our application is under review and can expect to hear back from them a week later.

The week is starting to feel like a year for us! I can only feel bad for those that had a completed file before us. Do they send out decision emails automatically over the weekend or Monday-Friday only?

Me too. My essays to all grad schools I applied were based on my personal and professional but first hand experiences.

By the way, Fordham room is too quiet. No one else has been accepted lately?

I hope to hear from the admissions soon.

I elected not to include any sources as well. I think a personal statement is exactly that. It allows the school to see your life, experiences, and so on. If a school wants to see academic ability for research and report...they should require an academic writing sample as well.

Thank you BrendonSW and congrats to your acceptance to NYU!

    FT-Grad2016. Let's count down!

    Let the countdown begin!

I hope we get some good news before the weekend. An interesting thing is that some students get acceptance emails over the weekend. It makes me wonder if they are working on weekends or if our decisions are made already and just waiting to be sent on a schedule.

This means your application is being reviewed. No need to stress. My application was complete on the 16th and I received my acceptance today. I think they're going in order of when they receive your application. I think you'll receive a letter sometime this week or next!

Thanks for the info! I'm starting to think the guessing game as to how grad schools process applications and make decisions is more stressful than earning the actual degree!

Hi everyone, I have received this email this morning. I wonder if you all have received this letter and whether or not I can estimate how many days from today, I can expect to hear back from NYU. Thank you!:

    Dear XYZ,

Thank you, again, for your application to the MSW program at the Silver School of Social Work at New York University. Hopefully you have taken advantage of attending one of our Information Events, Walk-in hours, or Webinars to learn more about our MSW program.

In case you haven't met or corresponded with us, I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself as well as the other members of the Admissions and Enrollment Services Office. I am the Assistant Dean of Enrollment Services at the Silver School and my name is Robert Sommo. The Director of Enrollment Services is Sheryl Goldfarb. Also, in the Office is Byron Cortes who can assist you with financial aid, scholarship and tuition-related questions. Todd Thomas can answer your questions about the application process and Carrie Prendergast can advise you on matters of program and course registration. Finally, Olga Rivera is an excellent resource for information about the School, logistics and general information. If you have not already done so, please feel free to contact us at 212.998.5910 or silver.admissions@nyu.edu. Ask for the person you wish to be in touch with and we will be happy to assist you. We strive to respond to inquiries in a timely manner; but, note that sometimes we have a high volume which may cause a delay.

I want to encourage your interest in our MSW program by offering you every opportunity to gain the knowledge you need to make an educated decision about your education and career. On behalf of our faculty, we look forward to having your completed application evaluated and rendering you a decision soon. Good luck.

    Respectfully,

    Robert Sommo

    Assistant Dean of Enrollment Services

I received that same email on the 20th. About 10 days later I got a "Welcome" email from the dean with similar purpose. My application still shows that the Silver School is processing my application. I am curious to know if that means under review or if they haven't even sent it for review yet. The strange part is started the app in late December, Submitted on January 7th or 8th and my final LOR was submitted around the 22nd. So my file should have been "complete" on the 23rd. Any thoughts?

  17. Hi everyone! First time poster here.

Can someone post a link or process to check on our application status via Albert? If it is the same process that I use... I might have to contact the office about a technical issue.

EDIT: Actually, I figured out my own issue. Pesky browser!
