  1. All my responses are in and all are rejections. I'm out for this coming academic year, but the good thing about writing is that you can practice even without being in an MFA program (can't get Fellowships without an MFA, though). Ah well. There will be more years to re-apply! They can't get rid of me that easily ;P Wonderful congratulations to all who got acceptances and waitlisted! Way to go!! And congratulations to all who applied. It's not an easy thing to put our work out there knowing there will plenty of rejection to go around.
  2. So this.
  3. I'm still waiting to hear from Michigan, too. Wondering why it's so difficult for them to send the R when they've already sent a bunch of them. Grrr. Anyway, you're not alone in the waiting
  4. All Caps, @holycat? Had to laugh when I read this. Thanks for that Saw the following while looking through Iowa's websites in case I missed anything: "Decisions on admissions and financial aid awards are made in March or early April for the following academic year." EARLY APRIL??? Is that for realsies? I'll just go ahead and forget this whole thing ever happened because I can't think about it for that long Not Knowing. I've been doing well the last week and a half only checking in a handful of times, but I don't know how long I can sustain that. Hope you're all faring well!
  5. Right?!?! Just reject already so I can move on. (Maybe I should write a rejection myself so I can see the words and feel closure.)
  6. Whoops! May have mis-read when $500 was expected. "Unethical" is the word I was looking for, thanks @FalloutCoversEverything! (Clearly a writer if I'm forgetting basic words )
  7. They make you pay $500.00 to hold your acceptance?? That sounds totally sketchy. I've never heard of that (which only means that I've never heard of that, not that it isn't a thing...but seriously??). Wisconsin's website includes this info, which I'll share with you because I think it's important and it's relevant to your situation: "Like most institutions with a graduate program in creative writing, the University of Wisconsin-Madison is a member of the Council of Graduate Schools and as such is bound to the following resolution: "Students are under no obligation to respond to offers of financial support prior to April 15; earlier deadlines for acceptance of such offers violate the intent of this Resolution." You can see the full resolution as well as a list of council members by clicking here. We at Wisconsin advise any applicant who is feeling pressured to accept another MFA program's offer before the April 15th deadline to simply send the program a friendly email that states, "I see that your institution is a member of the Council of Graduate Schools. As such, I believe that I have the right to consider your offer up until the April 15th deadline as established by the council. Thanks so much!" Most universities are big places where one hand doesn't know what the other hand is doing. Showing them you know your rights will help ensure that your rights are respected." I'd check to see if this institution participates in the resolution and inform them of your rights if they are (which includes not paying $500 to "hold" your acceptance). The April 15th deadline is after their early March funding outcome/informing, so you can wait to hear about funding before making your decision. Expecting you to make a decision without giving you full information (funding is TOTALLY relevant!!) is BS, if you ask me. Good luck!
  8. Looks that way. =( Oh, le sigh.... they were my hopeful, as I tend to write toward a speculative/weird bent and one of their (assistant) professor's interests is speculative fiction and she got to write that on her profile (!!!) I figured they might actually be okay with literary weird/speculative writing. <--yeah, run-on, I know. It's that kind of day. I'ma just going to go take a bath and cry a little. (One of the local library reading groups is discussing Ann Leckie's "Ancillary Justice" later this week, so I have *something* to look forward to at least because it ain't going to be an acceptance.)
  9. Thank you, @FalloutCoversEverything. I've heard really good things about Alabama's program, too. They're on my expanded list of places to apply. Next year
  10. Does anyone know if Michigan (Helen Zell Writers Program) emails results? My Prospective Student Center page just has general info (year, program, application #, etc) on the "Status" page (with no "pending" status or anything like that showing). Oh, I do wish they'd all just send the rejections if that's what the decisions are going to be. Already received Minnesota's. Nothing from Michigan, Wisconsin, or Iowa. Guessing Wisconsin is a no since acceptances and wait lists already posted. Too poor to apply to more programs this year. Getting rejected is disappointing even when tempered with the knowledge that it's a long shot. I mean, we WANT to get it, or we wouldn't be applying in the first place (because who'd put themselves through this nightmare if they didn't really want to get in), so OF COURSE it's going to suck when we're rejected. And biggest congrats to those who were accepted and wait listed!!! Omg, I can only imagine
