I will definitely let you know how it goes! My meeting is this Friday. I totally feel you about the loans...hopefully we are both able to get at least a little more money!
I'm looking forward to hearing about your meeting today. Good luck!

Where did you find the information on where to send the check and how to address it? I couldn't find any specific instructions on website or acceptance letter.
Hi, when you submit your Intent to Enroll the instructions are on that site.

Hi! Has anyone mailed in their $400 Enrollment Deposit?
I wonder if we can pay it online with credit cards, but I don't think so. Right? They ask me to mail the check/money order in before April 4th which is around the corner. However, I am still waiting for my financial package info and would like to see if they will offer me any scholarship. Should I wait for this before placing my deposit?
Thank you!
Hi Opt4theBest, congrats on your acceptance by the way! I submitted my Intent to Enroll today and I also saw that they only accept mailed deposits, so I stuck mine in the mail today. Mine should arrive in less than one week, which won't be a problem for the April deadline, and I'm from Alaska. Hope that helps.

Thanks! I am not sure yet! I really want to but I didn't receive that much more aid from my appeal. I have a meeting next week with the director of admissions to discuss my situation and see if there is any way we can work past some of the financial barriers so I can attend. I am trying to be optimistic but also don't want to get my hopes up! If I don't end up going to Columbia then I will go to UNC which I would be very happy with as well.
Hi caitmcguire, I am interested in how your meeting goes, as I didn't get as much as I had hoped with my appeal. I sent Debbie L. an email about it, so I'm waiting to hear back, but curious to see if you are successful. I'm not excited about ending up with over $90k in student loans when I graduate. Thanks!

I just received my financial aid package and am very disappointed. I only received $10k in scholarship and no work study. This is disconcerting because it will cost me several thousands of dollars just to relocate from Alaska to NYC, and then the cost of the program. I already have $36k in undergrad debt. I am interested in what others are deciding.

Are there any other Advanced Standing students still waiting for their financial aid package? I'm wondering why it's taking so long, as I submitted my FAFSA back in February.
-
Glad to hear they responded with a higher number. Can anyone tell me what the tuition is for the 2016-17 advanced standing program? I'm seeing that last years was $56,265. Still waiting for my package ... Thanks.
-
Has anyone heard from financial aid today? I have yet to receive my package, which is delaying my ability to make a final decision.

I found mine in junk mail as well. I too received 14,000 with no work study. it looks like Columbia increased their tuition significantly from the rate last year that is listed on their website. This is really disappointing.
Hmm, that's not good to hear. I haven't received my package yet. I'm wondering if any of the admits who appealed their package have heard back yet.

Okay, mine must still be in process. Thanks.

Well, looks like they released the financial packages for the advanced standing folks. I got $14,000/yr, but didn't qualify for any work study for some reason! I'm going to appeal to see if they'll match what I was offered from Chicago.
Where did you receive your package?

I am coming out of my undergrad with over $26k in student loan debt, so taking additional loans is quite a stressful idea but I am waiting to see what they offer. Yes, please keep us updated about your appeals for more funding. Thanks!

I hope we can all share this discussion about financial aid, it is the only thing holding me back. I will post when I receive the info from the school
-
Great! I just received my acceptance as well! However, financial aid is the only hesitancy, I hope we hear ASAP. Congrats everyone!

Ohhh you got me so excited! I checked my app, and I do not have an updated status link yet. I applied for Advanced Standing, and it looks like folks still haven't heard back yet though.
Yes, it looks like all of the advanced standing students are still waiting ... but admissions told me this week we will hear, I was hoping for early on!

Do you know what type of company you plan on working for?
Hi, I plan to work in prevention, which a lot of the time involves grant money to fund the workers and the work. Alaska has the highest rate of suicide in the country and I am very passionate about the work. We will see where it leads, but I doubt it will lead to Columbia without a generous aid package. I've already been accepted to a grad school that emphasizes Alaska Native values.

@jillchristine thanks for the response! That's not bad considering how close you are to campus.
Is anyone else scared about the loans/cost of tuition? Columbia is one of my top schools but I'm wondering if I would actually attend due to the cost. I'm also wondering if people care about the ivy league name at a grad level? It seems like a lot of people are suggesting a CUNY school over Columbia due to the affordability...
I am very hesitant about the cost of attending. I haven't received my admission decision yet, but will likely attend another school that is much more affordable. I am curious to see what the financial aid packages are like, but I think I've read on here that they don't offer any more than $20,000/year, which makes it still too much for what I'm comfortable with. I don't plan on working for a company that will pay a lot, so ...

Hi all, I had emailed admissions a couple of weeks ago about decisions, I received the response below today:
"Hi Kristina,
Thanks for reaching out. We apologize for the delay in responding. Advanced Standing students should start hearing from us next week.Sincerely,CSSW Admissions" -
Congrats to others who were admitted, so far no rejected? I am somewhat relieved to hear that none of the Advanced Standing applicants have heard back, although yes I am very frustrated too, I started working on my application in September, turned in by the Dec. deadline! I am hoping it isn't bad news, and that I will at least hear something before the weekend :-)
-
It's pretty quiet today, has anyone heard back? Particularly Advanced Standing applicants?
-
Anyone Advanced Standing? Last year those applicants heard later than the rest, wondering if this year is the same?

Just got my acceptance! I'm not optimistic about financial aid (that information is to follow in the coming weeks) but still very happy!

Does anyone know when financial aid awards will be mailed out/available online? I didn't receive any notice about scholarships in my letter online.
Hi, congrats!! I haven't gotten anything yet, I hope it's not a bad sign. Did either of you apply to the Advanced Standing program? Congrats again!

Is that per term or total? What is total scholarship now? I'm curious as to what everyone is receiving, I feel like I didn't receive enough, compared to everyone else.
