MACK!!! you have eased my mind!! Thank you, I feel like a weight has lifted from my shoulders!!

Best wishes and I hope you get off that waiting list!! Any news?

I'm so happy I could help and I hope you have a wonderful Easter.

No news yet. I am hoping maybe something this week but trying to limit how often I check Quest. I'm anxious myself so everytime I see the word "waitlist" I kind of get disappointed all over again :(

Mack!! You are always here to make me feel better!! Thank goodness for our little online support group!!

When did you convocate if you don't mind me asking? (apparently a degree isn't official until that ceremony...)and how did you prove to Waterloo that you had graduated? I know that sounds sort of strange, but i'm scared without the official degree convocated I won't be eligible.

I didn't convocate until October so almost two months after I started the BSW, I just provided transcripts showing successful completion of those last courses and it was okay. I want to say there were a few people in my boat as well :)

    Hi,

Thank you so much for your response, I needed to hear this. I was crying so much yesterday, my partner didn't know what to do. I have anxiety so I am really good at catastrophizing. I keep thinking that I will get into my dream school and this is what will prevent me from going. I just want to be a social worker so bad and I feel this process has been really trying... :( I will definitely go to my school convocation office monday morning and address the situation and plea my case.

I know it seems like such a hard road but this experience is only going to make you an even better social worker. Navigating these huge emotions of powerlessness and anxiety will enhance your empathetic responses in an incredibly meaningful way.

If it helps I didn't finish my last credits for my first degree until the August before I started the University of Waterloo, it was totally fine :)

Hey, just wanted to say I am also thinking of one-year BSW at this point. I only applied to UofT's 2 year program, and so far have heard nothing. I'm really discouraged. I'm wondering if it's worth doing the one year BSW and then applying for the MSW? Or should I keep trying for the MSW? Financially, I don't want to make a mistake, but I also don't want to wait year after year, and have a huge chance of not getting into the MSW program. I feel like the BSW increases your chances significantly.  Can anyone comment on this? So maybe I will go that route. I am looking into Waterloo's program as well as Lakehead (Orillia campus). It looks like I will only be able to apply for conditional admission to the Waterloo BSW. I'll have to take several pre-requisite courses.

There are even some schools of thought that believe a BSW is more employable because BSW positions are typically more entry level and employers may be reluctant to hire someone with an MSW because they wouldn't stay long.

Also with a BSW, a MSW is only 1 year so you're not actually losing any time.

    Hope this was helpful!

IF all else fails you can always apply to waterloo this summer for the winter semester. Yes, waiting is horrid. I constantly slip between feeling hopeless to hopeful.

It keeps quoting the wrong message!

I'm fascinated by the idea of writing to admissions, I would love to hear what everyone else says about it. My first instinct would be that if the waiting list is ranked it may not make a difference however I don't know if anything would preclude them from adjusting the ranking....

    Hey Mack!

Yes BIG HUGS haha waitlist is bittersweet, you know that they like you, you know that you are doing things right, but you are not in yet! haha

I am weighing the cost and benefits of applying to the bsw for winter semester. It is nice that they have this option! I was also thinking it would give me some time to work on perquisites as well. Honestly, I believe that this was my weakest and most rushed application so I am trying to feel okay about it. Do you think I could contact the faculty before I apply to the winter semester and ask them which parts of my application were weak?

I can't speak to that because I didn't have the option for a January start. Did they start that this year?

    Hey guys,

I have been waitlisted to BSW  at Waterloo... I feel kinda shitty... but does anyone know how many people are on this waitlist and if anyone gets off typically!?

    Thank you.

    Hi Calendar Girl

From one waitlistee to another, hugs!

Secondly lots of people in my current cohort came from the waitlist. If you're so inclined speak to the faculty regarding the pt option which you can do in only five terms. My friend was waitlisted last year and went that route and she's very happy!

This is good to know, thanks!!

Mack and CalendarGirl, any news on Waterloo?

my account still has not changed. Not quite sure how to interpret this I'm still hopeful but very nervous.

Hopefully others have had some good news!!

    I was waitlisted :(

Still checked quest a few times to see if they changed their minds but no such luck. My fingers are crossed still but trying to be realistic.

Hey, thank you so much for your support. I have really been struggling with not feeling "good enough" through this application process. It is tough. I am rooting for you!! Have you been able to get some great references from your experience in BSW?

Thank you CalenderGirl, I'm rooting for you too.

And yes, I can completely relate to the feeling of not being "good enough". I'd reckon that the emotional journey of a graduate applicant might make some interesting social work research one day!

The faculty has been quite good and I definitely feel as though I have learned a lot

    Hey Mack,

Thank you so much for your information!! I am praying to get in, it seems like a great opportunity. I am just a little bit concerned about my overall GPA its only a 79%. I didn't do well in my first 2 years so I have been trying so hard to raise it. I do have 3400 hours of experience, 2200 of which are working directly with individuals who suffer from mental illness, specifically schizophrenia. Do you know how competitive it is to get in?

I think you sound like a great candidate. Right now the cohort is fairly mixed I think? Some with incredibly high GPA's and some less so with great experience. I think though from what you're describing you'd have a great shot, I mean 79% is nothing to sneeze at. There is 60 of us and I know that last year my friend was waitlisted but was able to jump into PT which is only taking her 5 terms

Advanced Standing programs usually only consider your BSW marks. My GPA from my first degree is what held me back before I got my BSW, so I understand what you mean. The only school that may consider my BComm marks is Waterloo - and I was told that it wouldn't bear much weight on my application. York and Ryerson both said its only my BSW that they consider. If your GPA from you BSW is good, then that is what mostly counts :)

You haven't heard from Waterloo yet?

  12. I have also been waitlisted at Waterloo. I called and they couldn't tell me where I sat. They also said that some years they end up taking everyone on the waitlist and others they take very few. Just depends on the circumstances on those who were admitted. She said they will post the first round of wait-list offers in April. I was feeling pretty disappointed as I only applied there as well.
