  1. Has anyone had a phone interview for the low-residency MFA program at MassArt/Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center?

I had work today and yesterday so they offered me a phone interview tomorrow morning.

If anyone has already experienced this, can you give some advice/tips on what to expect (from them in particular?)

    Thanks!

  2. Hello everyone. I've been reading all the posts, and I can't say I've had much luck so far. I've been out of the country for the last couple of weeks, and won't be back for one more. So, after reading what everyone else has said, it looks like those decisions are waiting in my mail box for me right now-- which is making me tear my hair out. I feel the NY Studio School is definitely my best fit- I really hope I nail this interview.

I applied to 10 schools thinking it would increase my chances... I'm beginning to think I should've spent more time on fewer apps.

Good luck to anyone still stuck in my boat.

Interview next week for NY Studio School

    Wcjern,

I am in the same boat. I applied to ten schools and have been getting nothing but flat rejection except for an interview with New York Studio School. I too believe they are the best fit for me. Maybe the same qualities that I appreciate in them, and that they appreciate in me, are what is unappealing to all the other schools.

When is your interview? Mine is April 1st. Do you have any thoughts on what to expect, aside from the usual?

  3. I changed my display name because I realized that "Mod" could suggest that I was a moderator.

    Another Update:

    1 Interview coming up:

New York Studio School: (scheduled for 4/1)

This was the last application that I sent and it was the strongest. Also, the philosophy and methods of the school are probably best suited for me. Crossing my fingers! It would be a really good fit.

The rest are kicking my ass...

    6 Rejections So Far:

  4. Another Update:

Well, my results are kind of embarrassing, but part of the benefit of this forum is to let others know what's going on.

    1 Interview:

New York Studio School: (scheduled for 4/1)

...feeling hopeful because, aside from being the only positive reply so far, I think this may truly be the best place for me and my work.

  6. Hi all,

I just posted an update earlier today, so scroll up if you want to read it.

I wanted to add that I just received an email this evening saying that I have been granted an interview with New York Studio School.

(It looks like I may be the only one on here who is applying there, but I figured I'd pass on the info anyway!)

    GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!

  7. I did a residency at Vermont Studio Center a few months ago. I LOVED LOVED LOVED it. Can't recommend it enough!

My guess is that it is not terribly difficult to get in, but it is difficult to get a full fellowship.

Not everyone gets a partial grant. I don't believe it's a ploy. They just give out as much as they can and probably try to distribute it somewhat evenly.

They also have a work-exchange program that will cut out another $600. The work is generally easy and fun. It's only a couple hours here and there and you work with cool people.

They are very well organized but also pleasantly chill. They are very nice and approachable so don't be afraid to email or call with questions.

  8. There is a low residency program at the Vermont Studio Center (via Johnson College.)

From what I have heard, you keep your own studio wherever you are and update them on your portfolio and statements. Also, you do two month-long residencies a year for three years. (or is it three a year for two years?) Something like that. I still have to research the details.

All I can tell you is that I did one residency at the Vermont Studio Center and it is a truly wonderful place. I loved it there. If my current applications don't work out I am seriously considering applying for this program.

Also, It looks like MassArt has a low residency program at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. I don't know anything about this one but I will look into it. I've heard that Provincetown is a cool place.
