  1. Getting a loan from my home country may be possible although it would be a regular loan(not student loan) which have very high interest rates and short period to pay. About the grants, I highly doubt the ministry here can offer to give one student $30,000 yet there are so many students here who cannot afford to study within the country which is about $1,000 a year. I wish they were some agencies/foundations that just offered to cosign international student loans, then my life would be much easier. And searching for a Japanese student loan is so hard if you can't read Japanese. More help Pleeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaassssssssssssssssssseeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. Also how do the interest rates vary? What would be considered Good, average or bad?
  3. I got accepted into two schools, one in Florida and another in South Carolina but with out funding(so far). So while im keeping my fingers crossed, i wanted to know whether there is any one who knows any international student who got a loan with out a cosigner so that i can look into that. Im basically planning for a loan for the first semester or year while I look for assistantships so its only for the first year and also in order to get my visa. Im from Africa but posses a dual citizenship with Japan
  4. Hey, congs on getting into USC. No, ill be going to Clemson, hopefully!!!! As I haven't gotten any word on funding yet so im just keeping my fingers crossed.
  5. Hey I'm from Uganda. I may be going to south Carolina in the fall to also study math. Was just about to start a similar topic. I see you got accepted into Howard. Will you be accepting it??? They are plenty of Africans there. At least I know the Head of the Math dept is from Ghana and the head of grad admissions is also from Africa. I also wanted to apply to Howard but the application process included sending the transcripts to some company for evaluation and mine were coming out late so i wouldn't have been able to bit the deadline.
  6. I havent yet got any information about the housing. But from what I have read, it seems that staying on campus is more expensive than off-campus. Not very sure though. Roughly how much does a grad student spend per month minus utility bills?
  7. Do you think $500 can do? I don't intend to live lavishly till I become rich..lol
  8. I am going to South Carolina in the fall and was wondering what the minimum amount of money you think I should have when I arrive at the airport. I have a teaching assistantship so after a while I sure ill be fine but its just the first few days I am worried about. I am from Africa. And considering how expensive the air ticket is going to be, every penny counts.
  9. Thanks guys, Im from Africa, (nothing gets more rural than Africa!!...lol). And it will be my first time in the US. I think ill love it from what Ive read. Thats unless I don't get bananas thrown at me..lol guess ill just pick them up and make a banana business..lol

  12. many schools have topics but haven't seen any for Clemson or any near by school. I just wanted to know how the south is like in general.

    Clemson, SC

I'm planning on going to Clemson University for a Phd and was wondering how the people are to international students. Is there allot of racism in South Carolina, because I have heard that the south is racist, and being an African student, I would want to know what I'm getting into though it wont stop me. Any first hand information would greatly be appreciated. Any good and bad points or advice for international students going to Clemson or South Carolina in general. I heard that it is in the middle of nowhere, but that doesn't bother me much since i'm from a country in the middle of nowhere..lol Also if I'm on a stipend, what should be the minimum amount of money I should arrive at the airport with. Is $1000 ok? Thanks
  14. I know a girl who got into Princeton applied math department with something like a 15 percentile score on the subject test. She had a good recommendation letter tho
