I am currently in my undergrad studying Physics and have been taking on some research projects that are mainly in the field of Condensed Matter Physics. However after getting experience in this field I do not think it is right for me and I wish to change my research specialization for my masters. When I apply to a University / talk to a potential supervisor, how does the fact that I have some experience in a different field affect the attitude towards me as a candidate? Does this work in my favour or against it if the group that the supervisor heads a group that is a completely different field?
