I did ask about the political+funding situation during my interview. The program (microbio department in general) is well insulated from funding cuts (they even increased the stipend this year), and professors that would have left have mostly done so by now - but it doesn't hurt to ask the ones you are particularly interested in. This is not the case for every department, so if Madison is on your radar then be sure to ask - the information was practically volunteered by a few people.

Undergrad Institution: National  University of Bangladesh , largest public University in country.
Major(s):  Zoology (course deficiency with physics , calculas and organic chemistry )
Minor(s):  none
GPA in Major:  unsure.
Overall GPA:  3.00
Position in Class: Rank not published . 

Graduate institution: University of Development Alternative  (UODA) Well known private university .

Publication: 7 paper published  , 3 paper from pharmacology field published in Indian journal , as a 2nd author of two and 3rd author of one paper.One paper from MS thesis published in pakistan as a 1st author , 02 fromBio informatics  ( Microbiology related  field )published in reputed journal and one is submitted at springer. 01 poster presentation published in international conference.    Attended several international conference and training program .

Got merit scholarship when admitted for MS program . Got membership from American society for Microbiology .
