  1. I got accepted into a program last year and prior to that, I was denied at least a dozen times.

What changed was my writing sample (letter of intent) and my recommendation letters.

For my letter of intent, I sent that off to my friends who were English majors, one was a lawyer, and another one proofread essays as a career. They all helped me refine my letter of intent. I truly believe that got me in the door.

A co-worker of mine taught me the trick to recommendation letters...that is to ask your references what they are going to write, then ask them to add more. When I think about it, I am sure the admissions committee gets a ton of letters describing someone's grades and dependability. Have you references talk about your flexibility in accepting criticism (You will get that a lot during practicum), etc.

I copied and pasted this from another website, but maybe suggest to your references to talk about these qualities if you do decide to apply again.

    1. attention to detail
    2. ability to think for themselves
    3. dependability - reliable

    11. work with minimum supervision
    12. ability to assess his/her level of understanding of task and ask appropriate questions
    13. enough basic understanding and background to resolve simple questions
    14. tenacity - persistent
    15. research experience
    16. well-organized
    17. critical thinker – good problem solver
    18. adaptable - flexible
    19. curiosity - enthusiasm
    20. analytical
    21. willingness to tolerate ambiguity
    22. systems approach = awareness of connections /connectability
    23. individual initiative – take initiative

What does the first summer look like? Class times, clinical times, etc.?

Kick off week, we will be starting classes. We will learn about "1/3" of the semester in a week. Crazy stuff ? And the rest is online.

But I think our first clinical doesn't till the school year which will be the school setting.

This is just a broad question for anyone that sees this. I just graduated in May and this is really the only program i want to get into. I did not get in here in region 20 but i noticed that most of you had been SLPA's for a couple of years and then applied. I just wanted to see if anyone had any advice as to how to get a job as a SLPA when you're barely starting. Since i have absolutely NO work experience being an SLPA just the one client i had when attending Texas State in the spring, im feeling very discouraged.

That's a tough one. Personally, I would focus on smaller towns/school districts that may have trouble getting SLPAs due to distance. I was lucky enough that my hometown (which is a small district) needed an SLPA.

@lscain do the 4 1/2 hours for grad school with your supervisor include the supervisory hours that you need to maintain your slp-a license, or do they not allow you to double dip?

    PS. I sent you a message :-)

Thank you for helping us out!!

From my understanding from others who are enrolled in the program, they cannot double dip state and practicum hours. :)

I got accepted for region 2. My acceptance letter was emailed to my TWU email, which I didn't even know I was suppose to be checking. I just saw the acceptance email on friday. I had nothing sent to my personal emails.

Another region 2 over here! ?

I applied. I read on another post that they go in alphabetical order. My last name starts with a "B," and I haven't heard anything.

However, I don't remember getting an email confirming that my application had been received and processed. I tracked the hard copy, and it was received by the front desk, and my application online was submitted successfully. I hope that's a good sign. Did everyone get an email confirming it was received and processed?

Yes, Sue Colton sent me a confirmation email saying the app was received and processed. That was on 11/4/16
