The Master of Arts in Child Study and Education Program does not require you to write a thesis.

"The Child Study and Education (CSE) program offers a two-year, non-thesis MA that qualifies graduates to teach in elementary schools (Kindergarten to Grade 6) in Ontario. Our combination of teacher education and graduate degree training is intended to produce teacher-leaders who can apply research and theory in child study to their careers as educators. The MA CSE program and our faculty are part of the Department of Applied Psychology and Human Development at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto."

I believe the Master of Teaching does require you to write a thesis. My friend is in the program right now and she is writing one:

    "Graduate Research

Over the two years of the program, you will complete a research project on a topic related to teaching and learning. Prior research experience is not a requirement or an expectation for admission to the program. Your research project will examine both the educational theory relating to a topic and its practical application to teaching. You will be carefully guided through the project."

Don't quote me on this though... there might be other differences....

That information is wrong. Both programs require you to do a research project.

I'm wondering what the difference is between all candidacies and first choice candidacies. Perhaps this means the # of first round of offers they sent out?

    all candidacies:

These stats were released Feb 24

First choice candidacies is how many people selected that program as their first choice

Does anyone have any insight on when OISE is sending out their official offers of admission for their MA CSE program? I received my unofficial offer on Feb 14th, and even though the MA program is my first choice, I feel like I can't turn down a BEd program until I have an "official" offer. The deadline to accept other schools is fast approaching, which is why i'm a bit nervous. Thanks in advance for any assistance! :)

Did you also apply to MT?

I just called to find out when the MT offical acceptances were sent out. I would contact the program liason for the CSE program through email she is very nice.

Did MT say if they sent out acceptances?

I live about an hour away from Toronto so I really hope I'll be seeing something by tomorrow or Friday!! The wait is killing me! Do you guys know if they sent out all the letters today?

Not all letters I believe since they said they are sending out the first set of acceptances.

OISE has been a goal for basically my entire university and high school career .. but so has teaching science been. I'm just worried that doing AQ courses would leave me less competitive with someone who did the I/S division during teachers college since I didn't get the in class practicum experiences. Do you guys think that this is a valid point?

I'm already thinking of ways to hopefully gain experience working the grade 7-12 during teachers college, perhaps more volunteering? My mind is going wild now but I'm so appreciative of everyone's comments and advice!

In my opinion, don't pick an age group that you aren't passionate in, you aren't going to have a good experience at OISE. At the end of the day, if you are a effective educator you will get a job regardless of what school you went to. York and Western have a great name for teachers college.

From my understanding, OISE's Master of Teaching program puts you at the A3 category on QECO's pay grid. Does anyone have any information about where the Master of Arts in Child Study and Education program puts you? Thanks in advance :) !

It puts you at the same pay scale, I asked.

To those who applied for both the MA in child study and the MT, which are you going to choose? I have no idea what the difference is and whether one is worth pursuing over the other. Any insight is appreciated!

    i sent you a message

    Hi SanaAbu,

ROSI says that I am invited (with funding!) but there is nothing in the Subject POSt. I also don't see any "currently enrolled" sign in the ACORN.

I did some 'research' on this, things look promising but I am still hoping that this is just a matter of the record that hasn't been updated yet. I am crossing my fingers!!!

Also... I contacted OISE last week. The liaison office said that their goal is to start sending out the official letters on March 1. If you live in the GTA, expect a letter by this coming weekend! --or next week!

... the wait is killing me!

Do you know what it means if my ROSI says active?

    Hi everyone!

I got the email today too that i've been recommended for acceptance. Is this pretty much a guarantee that we are going to be accepted? or are there cases where people don't end up getting an official acceptance?

Thanks and congrats to everyone else who got the email :)

what time did you receive the email

Does anybody know if there is still a chance at getting interviews even if one hasn't heard back yet? (If it is done in waves etc.) I have heard individuals have gotten interviews for the 28th and February 4th so far.

Not sure, I think the best option is emailing the program liaison  and asking

i think it's alright, nothing special. gpa is 3.7, and 300 hours experience with children, 180 hours as a teaching assistant in a grade 4 classroom, and the rest of the hours at a early child care centre. How about you?

3.7 gpa, 1000+ hours working with children in different settings. Did you receive an interview offer?
