My offer, way back in the day, was very clear that the NYU MA came with zero tuition waiver or funding (and, from what I hear around here, virtually zero guaranteed access to research faculty). So expect to be on the hook for about $25k/year. I would bet almost anything that any RA positions do not come with a funding waiver. (Which is a bit of a misnomer, because waiver means that tuition is paid from some other pool of money such as a research grant--nothing is actually free.)

Hmmm thanks for the information. Wow this is expensive. Plus adding on cost of living in NY it's probably too much.

The problem that I am having is that I have a low GPA as pointed out by a prof at one of the places I was rejected from.

I am about to join as a lab manager. But I have a feeling I do need to complete and ace some grad coursework before people tell me I am okay to attend grad school. So I am confused if I need to do a master's before I apply for a PhD?

  2. I heard back from my PI at Hopkins that I was rejected. I had a chat with him and he said that students had been ''invited". Not sure if that means invites have been sent out, but pretty weird that no invites on the survey page.

Rejected from UIUC, UCSD and JHU. Only Harvard remains. I had strong letters from Harvard and ENS,Paris. But my grades are not that great. So, need some publications to offeset them. Already planning for applying next year.

    All the best to everyone,

Someone posted in the survey page that he/she got an interview notification from JHU via phone on Jan 10th (search "JHU" in survey page).

So far I've heard nothing from JHU yet :(

Yeah, I checked. Seems like PI contacted the person directly. IMO, official invites have not been sent yet. Fingers crossed.

    All the best.

No, nothing from Hopkins or Harvard yet. Do you know of anyone hearing from them yet? I saw some people have heard from UCSD, so I'm no longer anticipating that one.

No, I am not aware of anyone hearing back from Harvard or JHU. Please post here or in the survey in case you do.

I emailed the graduate coordinator at UCSD and she told me all interview invites have been sent. So even I have taken this as a rejection.

Wow! Early in December I just kind of made this thread and forgot about it. Went on holiday to the UK for three weeks and came back to try to focus on other things. ^_^

Awesome to see so many cog sci people here. I've received a formal invitation to interview from Brandeis, an informal email from my POI from Berkeley asking to Skype this coming Tuesday with "good news", and a flat rejection from UIUC.

Between (all of) you and me...Berkeley is my top choice by far. Meanwhile, I felt curiously unaffected by the rejection from UIUC.

All things considered, I'm feeling good right now and congrats/good luck to the rest of you are still hearing back, too!

That's great. All the best for Berkeley.

Have you heard from Johns Hopkins or Harvard yet?

  6. Hi everyone,

Great to see a group on Perception. I have applied to UIUC, Harvard, UCSD, Johns Hopkins and Dartmouth. No news from any of these universities yet. So, do we expect an interview call around the same time as last year? I hope to be getting one from Hopkins at least. Should arrive in a week or so (according to last year) if I am lucky.

Can anyone throw some light on the admission procedure at Hopkins, Psychology and Brain Sciences? Does the PI select a candidate (has autonomy in selection)? or does our application go through a committee and everyone has a say regarding the decision?

    Thanks and all the best!
