What are people's thoughts about wearing dark coloured (black) tights under a black dress/skirt for business formal interviews? I have nude coloured pantyhose, but I usually wear black, and I'm worried that this may be too much black with the blazer, dress, and heels.

Only one of the schools I am interviewing at has explicitly told me that the dress code is business formal, after they had let me know a few weeks before that it was going to be business casual, so I had to make a few changes. Anyway, all my interviews are at really cold places (compared to AZ), so I'll be wearing black tights because they're significantly warmer. This is with a black pencil skirt/blazer/heels combo but with a colored blouse. I also bought nude pantyhose just in case, I just rather not risk being uncomfortably cold.

I am wondering if an outfit like the one in the link below would be appropriate for a social with the grad students? Is it too casual?

I think this would work great! I'm wearing similar outfits during casual events at my interviews, which consist mainly of dark jeans, basic (striped) sweaters and black ankle boots (no blazer). I found the ankle boots to be quite versatile, so I will also be wearing them to the formal part of the interview with a pencil skirt, blouse and cardigan.

No problem! I guess I should've specified I meant the 30th of Jan... my bad, my brain is mush from all the stress

Don't worry about it! I assumed it was January. I'm pretty sure my application is in limbo due to some transcript issues. I just wanted to make sure when the interview was so if for some miracle someone contacted me, I would be a bit prepared. But since it's the 30th, I wouldn't be able to make it anyway since I already confirmed an interview with another school.

  4. Thank you, everyone! I was going to ask for a Skype interview but decided that I didn't want to miss the opportunity to see the school in person. I talked to the professor that I currently work for and asked if it was the norm for students to pay for everything out of pocket and he said it wasn't for my alma mater. At least for many of the psychology programs here, they pay for half of all of the interviewees expenses.

  5. Yesterday I received my third invitation to go interview for a phd program! Although excited, this invitation was also met with a sense of dread. None of my other two schools have offered to assist financially in any way (mainly concerned about airfare), which stressed me out but I made it work. Now, this latest school is across the country with really expensive airfare (i.e. ~$500 that I don't have). I don't want to turn down the interview because it's a school that is higher up on my list. Would it be wise to explain my situation or even ask if there is any help with funding the expenses? Or should I just assume that since they didn't address it it means it's not an option? Thanks!

I saw on the results page that two people have received interviews from Lehigh University and I am wondering if by any chance someone would be able to tell me if they were generic or from your POI. I applied there too and my application was delayed due to some system error with my GRE but they still counted it as on time and complete for review while waiting for my results. I am just wondering if all interview invitations have gone out or if my application being delayed is why I have not heard anything from Lehigh. Thanks in advance ! And congrats & good luck to those who have an interview!

Also has anyone heard back from University of Miami, University of Tennessee or Seton Hall University?

Hey KayJay22! I got an invitation from Lehigh. It was pretty generic and not from a POI. Good luck!
