I'm a first year at UNC now. Myself and two others in my cohort of 13 were off the waitlist. They admit off the waitlist every year. So, you certainly have a chance. Although, note that one of us got accepted on April 15.

Thanks for the info! Certainly hope not to have to wait it out until April 15, but good to know nonetheless.

But usually (my experience) they studied American politics before because they studied in the US. A complete international usually doesnt have the chance to study American politics prior to their acceptance into a PhD. What I wanted to say with that was that I think it is highly unlikely given my experience and experience from people I know: Internationals that studied internationally do not end up in the American subfield.

Actually, you've got one right here

  3. Anybody have a sense / experience of the UNC waitlist? Does it seem realistic that at least a few admits would get better offers? Or even better, anyone here planning on turning down UNC?

I'm obsessing over these things largely by myself since I'm international, so any info would be much appreciated.

Thank you! I got an email from DGS, who said "By now, you should have received your official acceptance letter from the UVA Department of Politics." However, I never received said official acceptance letter... :lol:that was the first I'd heard that I had been accepted.

Thank you! And same, do you think they're referring to a physical letter that's in the mail? Checking my junk mail obsessively
