  1. Got accepted to RCA and Cranbrook (both painting) this week. What a difficult decision to make.

Does anyone have any knowledge about the art scene in Detroit and how well Cranbrook connects you with people from outside of that area?

What mostly steers me in the direction of RCA right now is that I feel it might be easier to build a network in London. Both schools seem to be a great program with their own benefits.

Also Tuition at RCA would be significantly less, as I would probably qualify for the Home/EU fees (£9500 per year). Even if I have to pay the overseas fees (£28,400 per year) it would be slightly less then the $38'000 at Cranbrook which I'm not even sure whether they're per year or semester...

Any info on either schools would be greatly appreciated.

I feel like this puts more pressure than joy on me right now, especially because Cranbrook only gives you 2 weeks to decide. I am trying to also let the happiness push through and am definitely proud to get into both of these schools.

For the international students: do you all have TOEFL?

I do as it seems to be required. I did try to get it waived when I was applying last year, but apparently one semester at a US school, a long-term relationship with an americanand an american step-dad are not sufficient...

tbh the only thing that bothered me about having to do it is that it's so expensive. found the test to be fairly easy

  3. congrats to everyone who got good news!

still waiting for UCLA and cranbrook, and as some people have been getting interview invites there I'm starting to lose hope. I did apply to painting though and I think everyone that heard back was from different departments, so I'm gonna hold on to that last glimmer of hope for a while B)

They did that to me too since I was out of the country but I called and told them it was important for me to do it in person since it is such a big decision. I've been told by professors on admissions committees that it could show a greater degree of commitment. However, I am currently in Europe, so the price wasn't as much of a hindrance, but you do have a say in the matter!

good to know, it would be fairly easy for me to get to london, depending on flight prices, so I might email them again to see if I can change it up

I applied to RCA Contemporary Art Practice in Critical Practice. It's my understanding that the departments run on different timelines, so I wouldn't worry about the staggered timing. Are you doing an in person or skype interview?

ok, phew :) They didn't offer me a choice between skype or in person, they just invited me straightaway for skype...

    Hi all,
First-time in the freak out forum here. Has anyone heard from UCIrvine yet?? I applied to RCA, Goldsmiths, and UCI. Interviewed last week at RCA and am waiting for the final call... my stomach is in knots!

Good luck and congrats to those accepted!

What did you apply for at RCA? Because my interview (painting) isn't until end of march

    First time commenting this year.

Yesterday I received an interview invitation from UCLA by email. I applied for New Genres, maybe sculpture comes soon this week as well. Interviews will be over the phone and will happen in the weekend.

Good luck everyone! Hope we all get into the programs we want this year!

Nice, congrats! I applied ceramics & haven't heard anything.

    Bravo!

I applied for Painting and haven't heard anything yet either. Had a little shock moment there, but I guess our departments will let us know soon as well

  8. been following for a while, finally got the courage to chip in, as I am starting to really freak out...

applied to ucla, cranbrook and rca - all painting. my husband is american and moved to switzerland for me last year, but it isn't easy with him not speaking the language so moving back to the US or at least an english speaking country would be helpful for us, which is why this whole process seems to take on a whole other layer of importance for me

I am thinking about applying to schools in switzerland though for safety, last year I applied to Columbia and Yale, didn't work out and I'm just dreading another round of rejections... luckily deadlines here aren't until march and the benefit would be that I wouldn't have to worry about financing as schools here are cheap...

best of luck to all of you!
