I've received acceptances from Purdue and USC as well, waiting on Johns Hopkins decision. I've also applied to Stanford and Columbia but withdrew my applications from both the universities. Right now, my top choices are Duke and Dartmouth. I like Dartmouth better which is why I think I've been a little biased towards it in my comparison. What other factors do you think makes Dartmouth better? I've talked to alumni from Duke and they religiously believe Duke would be an otherworldly experience.

I didn't apply to Duke, so maybe I'm a bit biased myself. Their program didn't really excite me as much as the others. Dartmouth I like their emphasis on their alumni network and everyone seems to fall in love with the place when they go there. I think school should be more than just a degree, it should be your experience and the people you meet and future job prospects. All the students I know and have talked to like it a lot, their internship program sounds cool, and I like the small tight knit community. I found their webinars very useful.

Since you have been accepted to USC, I was wondering why you're considering Duke/Dartmouth over USC? There isn't much information out there about MEM programs and I don't know a lot of people in this field, so I was wondering if you have any insights to share!

    DUKE

    Dartmouth

    Pros

    Lesser tuition

Reputation (one of the Ivy leagues)

Opportunities for funding in-terms of RA ship, TA ship and Resident Assistantship

20% tuition waiver, TA positions available

Program is very flexible. All Technical electives can be chosen from any engineering department or can be replaced by business electives

Low batch size (50), better faculty to student ratio

    Medium cost of living

    Excellent Industry and Alumni networks

High campus activity. Lots of events all around the year in the department as well as the campus.

    Cultural diversity and high selectivity

    Excellent industry and Alumni networks

More courses needed to complete the degree ensuring more exposure

Very well-known and recognised brand label. Also excellent facilities for startups and proximity to RTP area, a high density of companies

Proximity to Boston and New York, excellent employment opportunities

    Cons

Huge Asian population each year, skewing the diversity of the student body

More tuition and High cost of living

Huge Batch size (>100) implying a poor faculty to student ratio

Location is in the middle of nowhere. All restaurants, clubs stores are miles away.

Curriculum does not seem to be as intensive

The degree is only 1year, though can be extended to 1.5 years

Are these the only 2 schools you're considering, or have you received acceptances from other MEM programs? Based on your list, and other factors, I'd go with Dartmouth.

I applied for the ME M. Eng Program (Advanced Energy Technology), but haven't gotten a decision yet... I haven't seen any posts specifically saying this concentration program has accepted or rejected anyone.  Does anyone know if they send all the ME acceptance letters out at a time, or does it vary by concentration?  Also is there a precedence where they send out a bunch of acceptance letters and then wait to see who confirms before rejecting the rest of the applicants? I guess I'm just wondering if I'd find out I'm rejected the same day someone else is accepted (or Vice Versa)

I can see that at least 1 person has been admitted to Advanced Energy Technology for Fall 2017. That being said, not everyone has been getting their admissions the same day and they probably roll out some acceptances for the next week, which is the deadline to RSVP for the Visit Day. Otherwise, you might get rejected/waitlisted before then.

  4. I think you will definitely hear back this week. I was admitted into the MEng program and they have admit webinars starting this Friday, and more admit things after that. Also, in the student profiles, I do not see any registered students to EECS yet (mainly BioE, CE, and ME). Hope this helps/gives you hope!

No interview/interview invitation for me. I've heard that most Master program in Berkeley do not require interview(not confirmed).

Results from different departments don't come out at the same time. Also results from same departments may not come out at the same time. But I guess they will arrive very soon since some of the result is out already.

Thanks for the info. Any idea how many apply to M eng/how many are accepted?

  6. I am in a similar situation and feeling guilty as well. I think I am going to give my company 3-4 weeks notice just so they aren't stressed when I leave (small company). I've also been slowly training others in things I do and have been encouraging new hires in our department. That's how I combat the guilt...but I think it's normal. People leave jobs all the time and know several months in advance that they will. It's just the circle of life

  7. Hi, I've been accepted to a few engineering management programs: USC MEM, UC Irvine MEM, Dartmouth MEM, and UCSB MTM (masters in technology management). I am still waiting on UC Berkeley MEng and Columbia MS&E. I was wondering if:

    1) Has anyone in this forum been accepted to any of these programs?

    2) Does anyone know which of these programs is best for future job prospects and worth the cost?

There doesn't seem to be much information about MEM programs on forums (less applicants I'm guessing), so any information is appreciated!

  8. Do you have to receive an interview to get accepted into the program? Do acceptances/rejections come out at the same time for all the different departments in the Fung institute Masters of Engineering program?
