I applied for the 2018 UCB MSW Title IV-E program and I interviewed on January 31, 2018. The interview itself was pretty straightforward as others have mentioned, it is a panel interview from 2 to 3 people, mine consisted of three people, two previous students and one current administrator I believe.

They were all really friendly and that put me at ease, it was six questions in total I was in there for about a half hour. Below is a list of the six questions I was asked for the 2018 interview. There was a total of 50 interviewed for the IV-E program and they will accept only 16.

    1.  Why do you want to work in child welfare?

    2.  How do you communicate or connect with other people from various backgrounds and cultures?(cultural competency)

    3.  How do you get people to open up to you or communicate with you when they’re going through difficult situations?

    4.  You are given a paper with a list of tasks  A child welfare worker would encounter and you are to rank them from what is the most important and explain your answers.

    5.  What do you know about child welfare?

    6. What are some of the challenges that you have faced at work ?

Thank you so much!! I was really unsure what to expect so this is a huge help! I hope you get it!

I am an undergrad at SDSU, I'm in the title  iv-e program here .

    overall gpa 3.2

    last 60 units 3.6

the only experience I have is from my internships which will be 500 hours when I graduate , I'm only 21 so I don't have much experience as I've literally been in school my whole life lol

i also did a volunteer trip to Costa Rica where I worked with teens girls in a group home for two weeks (my study abroad graduation requirement)

    hope this helps!

Hi! I am actually applying to the title iv-e program this year. I was wondering what the interview process was like. Was it more situational questions or questions about current laws and programs currently in place?

    Any little bit helps!

    Thank you!

    Hi bellebruin,

Congratulations!!! I also got accepted to SDSU! I had the hardest time deciding between SDSU, USC, and Michigan, but SDSU is the cheapest. Ha. Plus I was awarded the Title-IV stipend at SDSU, which pays for all my tuition! I got the same stipend at Michigan, but it doesn't go as far, because the price tag is so large.  My financial aid packets helped me make my decision, so I will also be attending SDSU in the fall.

I am going to be studying interpersonal practice with children and families, with my concentration being on child welfare, due to my stipend. I want to work for CWS after I graduate, so this fits perfectly. I know for my field work the director discussed with me that he will try to get me placed in a school my first year under a school social worker and for my second year I will be interning at CWS.  What about you?

I think it would be a great idea to connect and meet up with a group of people that are going to be attending this fall!

Hi!  I am applying for the title-ix stipend this year! I was wondering what the interview process was like and what types of questions they ask. Is it more situational based questions or facts about the laws in place?

    Any little bit will help!

    Thank you!!

    Hello,

haven't heard anything back so I decided to email them and Kathleen Ficklin responded back and said that they are still sending notifications until May 31st and that they are contacting students though their personal email and phone number. Just wanted to share this information incase anyone is in the same boat as me. :(

    Thanks for the info!

Do we know if they have starting sending out rejections?

  6. Still nothing on this end. This is getting crazy! Has anyone heard of people getting denied yet. If I waiting this long and learn I never had a chance its going really frustrating.

I'm so sorry for not responding! I thought I'd get an email if someone mentioned me--oops!

Namaste-I'm in the mental health section. I look forward to meeting you!!!

jennuinne27- I just got the call from Dr. Lee yesterday and he said they still have to secure people who were accepted before going through the waiting list. I haven't heard anything at all about the three year part time program.

AutumnSweater-yes! And I wish you the best of luck!

i hope to meet all of you soon. By the way, Dr Lee called to offer me the position after I had already accepted through the school and signed up for orientation. So I don't think it's a bad idea to check in :)

    take care:)

    Congrats to everyone getting in!!!

Does anyone know if they have started telling people who haven't gotten in?

Like I would just like to know either way so I can figure things out with other schools.

    Thank you!!

Dogz9: Thanks for the clarification about the interview! That makes more sense :)

    welcome to this thread!

    Hi everyone!

Yes, I'm still waiting for an answer well. I applied to the title-ix and haven't heard anything either. Anyone else apply and haven't heard? Do you all think I should call?

Also, for those who have heard from San Jose state has your SJSU portal been updated??

    thank you!

I think the interview went okay, it could have went better but I was soo nervous. All the questions were soo straightforward. The caffeine beforehand didn't give me a boost like I thought it had me jittery lol

I really hope you got in! waiting to have my interview. I applied at SJSU. Any tips you would be willing to offer?

    Hi all,

Congrats to everyone who's been accepted, and good luck to all who are still in limbo! I was recently accepted to the MSW Title IV-E program at both UC Berkeley and SF State, and am trying to make a decision. I'm leaning towards SF State at this point because it is so much cheaper (around $8,000/yr vs $22,000/yr for tuition), but I'm wondering if any of you (particularly those of you in direct service, since I know the MAP program is not something offered for most other MSW programs) have strong reasons you would choose Berkeley over another (cheaper) option.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Congratulations!!! I was wondering what was your interview like for getting into the title-ix program. I applied at SJSU and still waiting to have my interview. Any tips you are willing to offer? Thank you!
