  1. Thanks Sarahel for your comments. I am pretty sure I spent enough efforts and time on my application. As i stated before, I even had two successful applications from last 2 years with me, and I tried to see where and how they highlighted their strengths; as well as followed the same format for the essays sections. I have to note however, that I noticed you guys are mentioning about the importance of "how to write...etc..". My answer is simple: How rusty could you expect a couple of pages to be written, by a person who has the ability to write a book and various journal publications? In other words, I am pretty sure, the problem does not rely there. On another note, I did show my application to couple of friends who got it, and their feedback was great! Maybe you are right on the ranking part, I am in ECE at Waterloo (I guess we are among the top in Canada)! Our success rate last year was 60 %, am not sure about this year. In any case, thank you for your thoughts on my issue. I won't be eligible next year, this was my last year to apply for NSERC. All I am trying to find now is some motivation to keep working as hard. To be honest with you, all i can think of now is how to graduate. Because with more or less publications, seemingly the outcome is sadly the same!!
  2. Thanks Cobra for your words. It's always luck unfortunately! My only disappointment is why not getting compensated for the hard work? that's it! i personally would rather refuse getting any reward if i don;t work hard for it. But life is not that seemingly. In any case, good luck for you. This was the last time i try for NSERC. Next year, I won't be eligible, as i will be more than 24 months in my program; and i doubt i am going for Post-doc. So i wish you luck for next time!
  3. Thank you all for your thoughts and comments. yellowtulip: I have seen two applications who got accepted in the last 2 years (my friends), and i couldn't get why they got it and i didn't. I honestly even tried to follow the same format, thinking that i might "secure" the acceptance! but apparently not! mr93: i did send them an e-mail, but they replied (auto-reply) that they won't process such queries before June! So whatever! ste Urbain: I did review the application and find couple of typos in my Master's thesis summary! that's it! will writing "offers" instead of "offered" and forgetting the "as" in "as well as", make me lose the scholarship?! If that's the case, then they must be looking for perfection! I guess God will only win this award then
  4. Hi All, Just got my rejection! Unfortunately, i have been trying to find "a closure" as to why i didn't get it, and i am not really able to find the answer!! i hope that some of you could help me. As an overview to my application: 1- I have 1 Book, 1 Book chapter, 3 top journals (2 first author, 1 co-author) and 6 top conferences (all first author), all from my Master's 2- I have 2 submitted top journals and 1 top conference accepted from my first year as PhD. 3- My Master's thesis was nominated for the best thesis award 4- I have couple of conferences travel grants 5- I have very strong recommendation letters. 6- My GPA is probably the weakest link here: 85 % overall (but i guess not disastrous) 7- I have two years experience in the industry (in top companies in IT) 8- I have various extracurricular Vice-President positions 9- I have various Teaching experiences So can anyone please help me find out why am i really working hard again?!! coz i am really not being able to see how i am getting compensated for all that!! All i really want is someone to tell me, that i am not competitive enough to get it, and that all others who got it have better records. Coz otherwise, i see no fairness in all this. Thanks!
  5. they have them! but can't release the information We will have to wait for the letters!!! Good luck.
  6. Mailwoman already came, Nothing in my mail as well! I e-mailed the grad-office, no reply yet. I will try to go see them again. Perhaps things in person can be different I will go there in the afternoon. I will keep you posted.
  7. Congrats desiduous! Do you know when did your grad office get the results? because i checked with my grad office last week, and they said they have nothing! THanks!
  8. What if it was the case where people who get the scholarship, get their PIN later since they will be busy processing their acceptance papers? OR Just like any competition, rejected people get notified/updated first?
  9. Thanks "bethebest" i was feeling like the little boy left in the far corner
  10. Ttry to schedule your work hours after the mailing time. For example, i know that the last mail i can get is around 3:00 pm. So i am trying to work afterwards Hope this makes this week goes more efficiently than what is currently being done!
  11. Oh Crap! I hope not a bad sign! Though i know some people that got rejected and still got assigned a PIN. So, am really not sure. I don't feel like entering the speculation game, coz it's dangerous
  12. did you guys apply before? or first time? cause no PIN for me yet, and first time applying.
  13. Thanks. But no PIN update for me!
  14. Ok Guys! Updates: I just called NSERC. They said: "the letters should be sent out this week, and we shall receive them by the end of the month" So i guess it will be a "mailing delay" game!! Good luck to all!
  15. Where did you see the PIN?
