Haha, while I am one of those waiting for a spot I'm going to have to really disagree with your recommendation, in good spirit though it may be. Neurone, find out which one is best for you. I've heard from most people that NDSEG is more prestigious (the academic definition of which eludes me to this day). I would go with NDSEG over NSF but that's only based on the meager amount that I know of the differences between the two. I have also seen the 'deferred to accept _____' and it seems to be effective in getting across the 'prestige' of getting the award so no matter what you're not losing that.

Yeah, I'd take NDSEG. It's more money. And on a CV you are still an NSF winner. You can put something like: NDSEG (accepted), NSF (declined).

My application status still says "under review" too, so that is not an indication of whether you will be getting a call. I also can't remember who called me, I apologize. It was definitely 202, but thats all I know.
What field of engineering are you in? It seems everyone so far has been physics or engineering!

I got my call at 12:30pm pacific time.
Awesome! I don't like this method of notification; I wish we could just all know at once. I think it's very likely I didn't get one, but I'm not going to be able to help keeping my hopes up until I hear for sure.

Be thankful that you didn't watch the end of the NCAA hoops final. Butler was SO CLOSE to beating Duke. Yet another bad omen. With Duke winning the championship, I'm not expecting to hear about the GRFP till Friday.
Haha, for real, I already experienced one heart attack and serious, serious disappointment when watching the game. I actually might not be upset if the second round of that got put off.

I just called and the woman told me "later this week," but couldn't elaborate if that meant tomorrow or closer to Friday. Anyway, probably nothing today...but I'm still hoping for a 3am update!
ugh, i really hope tomorrow counts as later this week, but somehow i think it doesn't.

Hi All
Just to pass on some potentially new info, I just spoke with someone at the call center and they said results are expected to go out early next week. So, we have a full weekend of anxious waiting ahead of us!
When I applied I figured it'd be just a sweet line on my CV, and now it turns out I actually need the award to be able to do what I want for a thesis project. The wait is actually making me go even more grey.
What do you think their definition of early is? I guess Monday or Tuesday? So soon!

I got the impression that they had called people rather than emailing, and that they had only called people who won. I didn't get an email either and I think it'd be weird that ALL of us would have "missed" the email, so I'm pretty sure one wasn't sent out.
