  1. Hang in there. I got into my top choice school with a 980 GRE combined (I studied did a ton of practice tests. Thank god I scored higher on the real thing than those practice exams). I know I am just not a good standardized test taker - I was the same way with the SATs in high school. Their suggested minimum was 1000, but I was still accepted. I have a great undergraduate GPA, solid letters of recommendation, and a lot of skills the program was looking for. They were one of the schools I selected because they were a good fit for me with my desire to get my MA and go straight into the Human Factors field. It is possible that you'll get in with those scores. As long as the school looks at your entire application and not have a cut off line. Best of luck. I agree with you though - the verbal section is a killer.
  2. I just had to share. I got a rejection a few weeks ago from Central Michigan University. Today I received a phone call and email from a professor at the program who is the only human factors professor in the department wanting to talk to me about my application. I was like this: when I read that email. RIT is a better fit for me anyway, so I sent him an email back letting him know about the letter about not getting accepted, that I had been accepted to a program that fits my interests better, thanked him for his email and phone call, and that I hoped to see him at a conference in the future. It was one of those "wait, what??" moments.
  3. Ugh. I hate this waiting game. I mean I do have one acceptance - so that is a definite relief. It is my 2nd choice school - so not too shabby. I just haven't heard from my first school and am tired of waiting. I just would like to know where I will be in August so I can start planning and making arrangements (housing, moving my horse or finding someone to lease him, moving in general, loans, etc, etc.). Hang in there. I am imagining it will all be over soon in the next couple months.
  4. When people ask me what I am going to go for graduate school and I tell them Human Factors Psychology, I explain it as a mixture of computer science, psychology, and a hint of economics (decision making). Uh, they look at me like I have three heads or ask how that can be a combination - then I go into my interests in Usability and making things more usable. I am not sure if they understand me or are just trying to get me to stop talking.
  5. Hi There, First off, if there are any other Human Factors people out here - awesome. Second, I was just wondering if anyone has heard back from the Masters program at George Mason University? I am a little nervous about it and I have RIT waiting on me to make a decision. I know their official deadline was just yesterday, but they say they start notifying around March 1st, so I just wanted to see if anyone had heard. Okay, that's enough blabbing about that! Best of luck to all applicants! -Stephanie
