Hi guys,
I am in my last year of M.Sc. in Chemistry in a small university in Canada (Laurier if you heard about it lol). I really want to change the scenery and pursue my PhD in biophysics (say like membrane protein folding/membrane protein dynamics/ structure and functions of proteins) in a very big university.
My record has been ok so far with NSERC CGS M and OGS. I am applying for NSERC PGSD this year and already been forwarded to the national stage. But I just realized that the system in other country (USA and England) is so different and the deadline of application has been passed and the way the funding works is even different from those in Canada.
What can I do at the moment? (I emailed a few profs but no reply or a negative reply
Anybody out there has a good suggestion?
Thank you so much guys

Cerulea is right. It was my case, but they still sent my application to NSERC, but they give me a really low ranking, while at my new university they nominated me for vanier. So I couldn't understand why my current university ranked me so low, that I doubted I would receive a scholarship while my new university thougth I was good enough for Vanier....
It is true in university selection they tend to favor those who will be staying and I felt it last fall
See we are all speculating a lot to understand how this review process works at university level and national level...I suggest that one of us try to become a NSERC reviewer and then comes back here and starts a blog on how it really works
Hi guys!! This actually scares me!!! My school does not have a PhD program and I intend to do PhD the following year!!! What should I do? Applying for NSERC PGS D through my current university (where Im doing my M.Sc now) is the only option I have in mind. But if the bias is as you guys say, I mean... I have no hope?
(I had NSERC-CGS for the first year of M.Sc and just got an OGS for my 2nd year)
Anyone could give me any advice? Thanks so much!

Me too... Unsuccessful
Apparently, my application was good enough to win SSHRC last year, but not good enough for OGS...
Now I have no funding or next year, because I was unable to apply to the tri-council again after having SSHRC this year... debt here I come!
So sorry to hear that!!! you would think it should be the other around!!!
-
ps i just wish someone would decline so that i get to go too LOL
-
congrats!!!! im so happy for you!

congrats guys!!! hope more good news come along from others as well

im in Biochem/biophys as well! got my positive result yesterday night!

I think its just a matter of names, division and area!! maybe urs is a little later than the other!! lets hope that does not mean anything
-
-
does the graduate office know before we do? (like nserc results)
-
For those of you who applied to NSERC! Lets hope its a good news you guys did not hear anything yet!!!
Good luck to all of u though!
-
Too sorry to hear that as well!! but do they send rejection via emails? or you sent them an email and they replied back with a rejection ?
I am still waiting nothing from NSERC yet!!
Hi, I got an email from them saying that only 15 slots are available out of 88 applications from NSERC, CIHR and SSHRC and that I am on the wait list so in case anyone changes his/her plan then I might have a chance!!
I pretty much dont think that anyone would want to miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity so I just considered its done!! Will apply again next year and hope for the best!!
I dont know why you did not get the email!! maybe it will come to you soon!!!
All the best!!
-
i just got a rejected email from NSERC!!!
Too bad
Good luck to you guys!
