Thanks for the feedback! I definitely got a good vibe there too. Do you think in terms of doing a Ph.D or pursuing higher studies, MT would be better? just because I've heard that it requires a research paper and the program is designed to help you conduct research with little/no background in it, whereas the MA doesn't and it seems to focus more on practicums rather than research. But I do have to say I like the sound of having a Masters of arts, rather than a Masters of teaching at the same time. I guess I just wanna keep my options open for later if I decide to study further...

I think both programs will allow you to pursue higher education if that is what you wish to do! That being said though, yes, I am also under the impression that the MT focuses more on research and does require you to do a research paper of some sort. I can't speak to the MT program too much just because I have done far more research on the MA because it is my first choice, but I'm sure they get this sort of question all the time as both programs are so similar so if I were you I would call OISE to get a better idea :)

I just got the email for acceptances to both MT and MA-CSE programs! Just wanna know which program are you guys choosing over the two and why? I'm having trouble deciding which one to go with since they're both so good. I went to the welcome reception for MACSE and asked around about research and they did say that I have the option of doing a QRP and pursue higher studies if I want which is what I was considering MT for... so which one is better really?

I don’t think that one is better than the other necessarily. I think it’s about what is the best fit for you. I really enjoyed the overall vibe that I got from the current students and faculty in the MA program both during my interview and at the welcome reception. I also like the fact that there is a strong emphasis on child development in the MA program. The structure of the courses is also interesting to me as you have placement for the mornings and class in the afternoon, whereas I think the MT program’s course layout is slightly different. Hope this helps :)

Hi! I have invited under my degree registration status  as well (not MT but a MA at OISE for education policy) but I have nothing in my enrolement/program. Does anyone else have just the word invited but literally nothing else to go off of?

It seems most people have both invited and enrolled (under program).

    Thanks!

I also applied to an MA program (child study and education) and it is the same for me. It shows invited on the degree registration status but only the MT shows as being "enrolled" when I click on programs. I received an email a few weeks ago that I have been accepted to the MA program though, so hopefully this means the same for you!

when i go under acorn i see nothing there! do i have to add the program or something?

I didn't add anything! I had been checking multiple times a day and around Feb 22 I noticed that it had automatically changed from saying nothing at all to showing the program name with "invited" beside it.

  5. I just checked ACORN and my MACSE application says "invited" and MT for primary/ junior says "financially cancelled". Under "programs" it also lists the MT program and says "enrolled". I think that this may be an indication of acceptance? I already received an email from the program liaison for the MA program on Feb 14th indicating that I have been accepted. I am also not a current U of T student but I work for U of T in the summer which is why I had access to my ACORN account. Best of luck to everyone!!!!!

I mostly chose the MT over the MACSE based on the ability to specialize. I also was really drawn to the thesis requirement, particularly since the MACSE seemed to be a one-or-the-other type of program (in terms of practicum and research streams).

That's fair! Yeah I really want to work with younger age groups and the MA program is automatically a P/J specialization.

As for your other comment about McGill, congratulations! That's awesome good for you! Is there any way you could accept now and then change your mind later? I know there may be some kind of fee which sucks, but that might be a safe bet just in case you don't get in anywhere else? That being said, your resume looks really good and the fact that you already got into McGill is probably a good indication of the results from other schools too :)

That's a stacked resume! Keep us updated :)

Just curious, what made you prioritize the MA over the MT?

Good question hahaha... I think both programs look great but I personally connected more to the MACSE after going to the open house in October. I also like how the MA program has more of a focus on child development (not to say that MT doesn't at all) and I also got a really positive vibe from the entire interview experience! :)

    What about yourself?

Hello! I applied for J/I (first choice), P/J (second choice), and MA Child and Youth Study (third choice).

A little background on me for reference: English Honours with a 3.75 GPA, skating instructor (ages 2-12), summer camp leader, support worker/coach with autistic children in sports settings, volunteer experience at an ECE centre.

My application has been under review since November. From what I have read, there is no interview for the MT. I DID however have an interview on Saturday for the MA program which was terribly stressful (but it is just my fallback).

Hopefully we start to hear back within the month! Best of luck to you all :)

I applied to the MACSE program as my first choice and the MT program in P/J as my second choice!

I have around a 3.5 GPA, dance class assistant for 6+ years, dance instructor (ages 3-10) for 2.5 years, summer camp counselor for 4 years, volunteer experience at an after-school reading program for grades 3-6, and two practicum placements that are part of my undergraduate program (one at an ECE centre and one at an elementary school).

I also had an interview for the MA program last Saturday and I think it went pretty well but I am extremely nervous as both of these programs sound great and I am super passionate about both of them!! Best of luck to everyone applying :)

Hey everyone! I'm a current MA CSE student. I will be there on Jan 27 to help calm any nerves pre-interview! There will be several of my classmates there as well, so if you have any questions, ask us tomorrow (Or Feb 3, the other interview day)!

Just relax, be confident, and be yourself! This program is really chill and we're all like a family - no need for uptight formalities!

Thank you! It was a great experience and everyone was super friendly! The interview was pretty straight forward as well. Now I am just anxiously waiting until March!
