this is a measure against age discrimination. probably the admission office uses this information to determine an age distribution of their applicants, but i doubt it they use it directly in their admission decisions. from the background of an applicant you can indirectly say something about their age. for instance, one who got his master and then went in the workforce for about 2 years, most likely he/she is about 25 years old. in the US is so common to suddenly change your career so I don't think age matters that much for the admission committee. lukas, mult noroc

got my rejection today by mail at MIT

probably. same situation with me, never got an official email saying the magic words " you got in"

2Qs: 1) did you guys receive the rejection frm MIT? 2) I have an offer from an university, I don't really know if they are offering any financial support but they are inviting me to the grad recruitment day. I am abroad right now, how do I say nicely that i can't attend? I hope this will not affect my admission:D

I guess it's pretty much over. Unless we're going to have a nice, big surprise in the mail in the following days. I doubt it, though. I hope we'll keep this thread alive and see if we're going to be in the same school next year. Good luck, everyone.
