  1. this is a measure against age discrimination. probably the admission office uses this information to determine an age distribution of their applicants, but i doubt it they use it directly in their admission decisions. from the background of an applicant you can indirectly say something about their age. for instance, one who got his master and then went in the workforce for about 2 years, most likely he/she is about 25 years old. in the US is so common to suddenly change your career so I don't think age matters that much for the admission committee. lukas, mult noroc
  2. any news? for me, nothing yet. upenn apparently mail their decisions late march/early april. cornell - I don't know anything..
  3. i think this week is going to be cornell's week.
  4. purplebird, my mailing address is in nyc. hmm, did not get anything from cornell. was it an email or regular mail? or did you check the website? what are your stats, lproof?
  5. got my rejection today by mail at MIT
  6. probably. same situation with me, never got an official email saying the magic words " you got in"
  7. 2Qs: 1) did you guys receive the rejection frm MIT? 2) I have an offer from an university, I don't really know if they are offering any financial support but they are inviting me to the grad recruitment day. I am abroad right now, how do I say nicely that i can't attend? I hope this will not affect my admission:D
  8. durlov, did they send you the email without you writing them?
  9. another round of mixed feelings..
  10. did you at least apply to a safety school?
  11. "sorry, you were turned down". as expected
  12. I guess it's pretty much over. Unless we're going to have a nice, big surprise in the mail in the following days. I doubt it, though. I hope we'll keep this thread alive and see if we're going to be in the same school next year. Good luck, everyone.
  13. my assumption right now is that the first round of acceptances was already sent out. depending on the meeting at the RSPV and how many will decline their offer they will send another round of acceptances
  14. we'll have to wait and see. apart from lifegoeson, did you guys get an offer from somewhere else? i am kind of sad, but i know the period of rejections is yet to come.
  15. congrats, lifegoeson! I am applying straight from undergrad, so seeing that you all published something was a little scary. We'll see how much Ohio is giving me. Another problem is that I can't attend the open house, since I'm abroad right now. What should I tell them?
  16. one of us, as in one of us posting here? not me, but certainly he/she must be celebrating
  17. i did not apply to any fellowships/scholarships  probably this will hurt my application.
  18. same here, but not even with profs, with the grad admission office. they ignored me and i did go through with the application process with those universities. the prof called me :? , but i did not get a positive vibe from him
  19. from the schools in the above post, I only applied to Cornell. Haven't heard anything. I think I got into Ohio State, but I'm not sure, they invited me to visit the university a while ago. I only have an unofficial email from a prof. Also, I had an interview with a prof from Lehigh and got into my undergrad university. Apart from these, I applied to northwestern, northeastern, jhu, upenn and rutgers. Probably I'll end up in Ohio.
  20. we'll probably know this week. Probably you're right exp_jw, since I know three websites with grad admission results and this is the only one that shows "some" admits to MIT.
  21. what do you mean?
