    Good Afternoon,

Did anyone create a Facebook Group for UofT Advanced Standing students? Trying to find one.

    Hey guys!

So i actually joined the facebook group for MSW class of 2019. Right now everyone in the group is in the two year program, but as we are advanced we will join them next year to all graduate at the same time! The group is very active and helpful!

Does Laurier have a platform to check admissions status (kinda like UofT's ACORN)?? I know there's LORIS, but I'm not sure where it would indicate my admissions status?

I've actually heard of 2 people who got in now. I asked and one of them said found out via email, and the other said it was the online status.

This morning I got an email from Laurier that their selection process is completed and that I can be waitlisted if I want to be. It says in the email that there are 35 spots for the waitlist and that you can be accepted from the waitlist until july 31 2018. you also have until March 20 to say if you would like to accept or decline to be on the waitlist. I did not notice any differences to my LORIS account. Hope this helps!

I applied solely to these two programs as well, and I am also waiting to hear! I've seen one person with an acceptance to Waterloo before Quest did their scheduled maintenance (that almost week felt like forever) and I assumed they would load offers/waitlist/rejections during that time, but still 'no decision made'. Judging from previous years, I believe Laurier only sends out their acceptances towards the end of March/early April but maybe we'll get lucky and they'll send them out early this year! Fingers crossed the information received from both schools is worth the wait!

I applied to Laurier and have not heard anything. I do know of a friend who applied to waterloo and received her acceptance last week (Friday)

I just received my admission letter email from UVIC for the MSW 1 year advanced standing program! Not sure if anyone else applied, but email letters have gone out and statuses have changed online!

Congrats! I applied but have not heard anything. Mine still says Under review by department. Not sure if others still have this as well?

    Hi all,

For those of you who have heard back from UofT advanced standing, congratulations! Just wondering if anyone who has applied to the Children and Families stream has heard any news?

Also, I know each school is probably different, but does anyone know how many people are put on the average waitlist?

    Thanks so much!

I mentioned this below but realized that I didn't directly respond to your post,

I have not heard back from Laurier or Uvic, however yesterday, my status on ACORN changed to 'invited'. I do not see any other specific information and I haven't received anything in the mail yet. I did apply for the Children and Families stream so although I don't see specifically any info about this, I would assume that my "invited" status means that I was accepted into that stream.

Congrats btw!!!! Just wondering, but what is the name of the agency you’re working for in BC? I’m just finishing my placement at Children’s Aid Society and I’m hoping to work in child protection in the future.

    Hey Viclane96,

Thanks!! So unlike in Ontario where CP is contracted to agencies (aka CAS), in BC all child protection jobs are directly from the provincial government which means you are employed by them and through the Ministry of Children and Family Development. There are different service delivery areas (aka regions) that you can apply for and then you get placed at an office (which ideally is close to where you live). I'm currently in Vancouver.

While MCFD (ministry of children and family development) does work with Aboriginal families in some communities, there are also some Delegated Aboriginal Agencies that have full delegation to investigate child protection reports.

    Hope that clarifies things!

  7. Hi all,

I am a long time lurker of this page and thought I would offer some insight as I know how stressed everyone is and there have been some people asking the same question. I have applied to the advance standing MSW programs at Laurier, UofT and Uvic online.

For reference (and in the spirit of easing any stress) , I completed my BSW at UBC with a specialization in child welfare and pretty much all of my experience is with children and families. I am also currently working as a child protection social worker in BC and have been in this role since June 2016.
