even i've heard that about the rankings. so right now i'm scouring through the department pages, comparing the course content, talking to grad students... which i've been doing for quite sometime now much contemplation being done. both the places have a lot of students, so getting a prof's attention and getting some research work done is going to be tough. so i'll go wherever the profs show the slightest interest of working with me thanks for all the inputs you guys, really appreciate it.

i'm waiting on my first choice too. i mailed them yesterday and got no reply so far. is like you go down on your knee and profess your undying love and its not reciprocated. hurts. but it makes sense that if they haven't informed me till April 14th, they're not going to tell me anything before april 16th untill they hear back from all the people to whom they've already made offers. but the fact that they haven't informed me of a waitlist or replied to my inquiry mail does not bode well right? if they wanted me even a wee lil bit they would have bothered to tell me to hang on and wait patiently right?

ah! thanks a lot for the information. i dont really have a problem with the sports fanaticism. i guess at some point while convincing myself that i should pick UB over UFL i got sidetracked. My main concern though is the reputation of the computer science department. I will most probably not be getting another degree after my MS in CSE, and its going to stay right on top of my resume or Linkedin profile or what have you. So i assume it is important for the place i study to be a well respected and recognised place. i am an international applicant and am not in a very good position to gauge this particular aspect. would appreciate your help in this regard!

I got accepted to the Master of Science in computer science programme at UFL and SUNY Buffalo. both the programmes have equally good courses. SUNY-B is more diverse in a way. But UFL has a certain "brand" name. i am not entirely sure about SUNY-B's reputation as an engineering school. i've been scouring the net and i really like Buffalo... if i'm there i'll quite enjoy the two years...seems like a very artsy kind of place. Gainesville on the other hand is turning me off, with all the football madness. plus it is in the middle of nowhere! i did my undergrad in a university town, and it can get pretty boring. i'm trying hard to take an "objective" decision here. i want to graduate with a good job, so being close to NYC,Boston, et al Buffalo seems like a smart choice. throw some light anyone?

they've been giving out admits and rejects since february and i still haven't heard anything from them. how does this place work? am i on some sort of waitlist?or have they tossed my application out of the window and had a good laugh? i'm an international applicant and i've set my biological clock to charlottseville time, staying up late to check my application status because people keep telling me april 15th is THE day. two more days to go. if its a reject i'll probably pine for a day or two and forget about it. but you see people getting accepts and rejects week after week since feb, it makes the wait hell-like. i'm too scared to call/mail them and ask them whats going on. does anyone know what the deal with this place is?tell me, pretty please?

i applied to the Masters programme at UVA. the wait is painful because they've been giving out admits since february and i havent heard anything! also, i am told there is not going to be an email in the event of a reject-just a status update on the application website. so its not even simply checking email every five minutes! * sigh * is it true that they will give the decision by april 15th or could it be delayed further? i sometimes wonder if i'm checking my status on the wrong website... its the same one as the application website right?most schools have a different page for status checks. but that doesnt seem to be the case here.
