[Need Volunteering Opportunities for Aspiring SLP]

Greetings, 

Any advice on where to apply to observe and/or volunteer with an SLP? I am currently a school teacher and would like to become an SLP but before making that transition I wanted to get a feel for the field to ensure this is the right move for me. I am not in school therefore not sure what places are willing to take volunteers that isn't part of a clinical placement.  I am in the South Florida area.

Thank you all for the feedback.  My undergrad GPA was high but I got 2 Cs on prerequisite courses. Looks like ull be taking those over??‍♀️?

I am curious to know if anyone has knowledge on how much importance is given to grades for prerequisites courses for grad school (out of field student).  Does it depends on the school? Are both undergraduate and prerequisite GPA weighed the same?

University of South Florida has a really good online bridge program for those out of field. I'm on my 4th class and love it.

Hello All,

I was recently accepted into a private university for the MS-SLP program. While I should be excited i'm a little apprehensive about the 56k price tag when most local university are about 25k in my state.

I currently have 2 options:

1. Attend this university with the higher cost or

2. Deny the opportunity and apply with hopes to be admitted to one of the 3 university in my area. This means leaving a secured spot in hopes of acceptance elsewhere

Has anyone been taken off the waitlist or been offer admission from the waitlist at Florida Atlantic University? When I called today I was informed that letters will be going out in the coming weeks...I wonder if this mean reject letter as many people have been notified of acceptance via email.

Hello all! 

I was wondering if anyone knows why FIU SLP program is about 42k ($688 per credit hour) while FAU is about 22k ($370 per credit hour) when both schools are PUBLIC university within 1 hr and 15 minutes away from each other.

 

Please help me understand.
