Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of withdrawing enrollment intent?
Here is the situation. I have applied to a few online MS engineering programs. 3 weeks ago, I received an email from school X asking for additional transcripts. After requesting the transcripts, I logged into the system to check the application status of school X. A message stated "congratulations, you have been recommended by your program for admission....." I was prompted to indicate my intent to enroll with the language " if the graduate school finalizes your admission, will you accept the offer of admission?." I completed the form as "accept."
3 weeks later, there has been no change or activity on the application page for school X. Keep in mind, I never received an email indicating that the grad program had recommended me for admission, only an email indicating that additional transcripts were needed.
Today I received notice of full admission to a better school (Y) - one I didn't think I would get into. Can I contact school X and withdraw my application and enrollment intent? After all, school X has not finalized my admission.I have an offer in-hand with school Y and for all I know school X could still reject my admission, even though it is under final review by the graduate school. There is no funding involved or RA/TA and I meet all the school's requirements so it is unlikely school X won't finalize my admission. Then again, why should I turn down the offer of school Y when school X may be waiting for a better applicant? On the other hand, since no funding is involved, school X would easily be able to fill my spot, especially if I let them know tomorrow (The application deadline is Nov. 1) There are likely still many applications they haven't reviewed.
Thanks
