I got rejected from Harvard's MTS program. I'm sad but I kind of expected this given my late submission and my not-so-strong essays that I rushed through. haha.
Now I have to decide between UVa (MA/PhD with funding), Stanford (MA), and Columbia (MA). My interest is East Asian Buddhism, and particularly how devotional cult and tantric practices interacted with and infused into Zen/chan strand of Buddhism.
Among the three options on the table, obviously UVa has the nicest deal (PhD with funding) but my impression is that its main forte is on Tibetan/ South Asian Buddhism rather than East Asian Buddhism. In this respect, I feel like I'm more compatible with Stanford or Columbia's programs.
Can anyone help me out making decision? For masters, UVa seems like a pretty good place but I'm not sure I would like to pursue my PhD degree at UVa. Is it allowed to receive fellowship but finish only master's degree at UVa and apply to other schools for PhD degree?
