what is the hierarchy of how you make decisions using these factors:
funding, location, research fit, faculty personality fit, fit with grad students, beauty, gut feeling.
I would say;
funding> productivity of the lab and the PI, and how happy are the students > faculty personality fit > research fit > specifics of the program (qualifying exam, offered courses etc) > weather > the rest

Hi everyone, I'm not sure if this is the right topic to post this, but has anyone heard from UC Berkeley Vision Science PhD program?

I'm guessing I didn't make the cut, I applied to Individual Differences. Did they already send out invitation emails?
I don't know for sure, I did a Skype interview. But I would say never lose hope, I just heard back from NYU for the open house! I thought all of the invitations were already sent out...

Has anyone heard from UC Santa Barbara Cognitive, or UT Austin?
I did a Skype interview with POI from UT Austin (I am an international), and he told that the on-campus interviews will be held in February
I applied to perception, brain and behavior track

Hi! I was told to pick 3-4 people (including POI) who I'd like to interview with during my time there. I think it's a separate interview with each professor.
Thank you for the reply! Good luck! ?

Hi everyone! I have a question to people who were invited to interview for the Cognition & Perception program at NYU. Is it an official interview with the admission commitee or skype/meeting with the POI alone? Or do you know if there will be a separate official interview after meeting with POI unoficially?
How did you find your area/topic of interest in research?

I was feeling the similar way. I volunteered in different labs using different methodologies/studying different topics. I also believe having this experience in different schools is important since the schools may have different cultures, and that may also help you to judge better when you need to choose between schools when you get your acceptences.
If you are in your 2nd year or so, and if it is hard to comprehend the research papers, you can first read textbooks or take some courses from coursera.
Another thing I did was to attend some conferences. Those may be very basic undergrad conferences, or a national congress. I think it's worth it even it is expensive, because you can compare different topics and also have the chance to go talk to professors/researchers and get a summer internship.
